Chapter 736
Chapter 736: The Unseen on Earth
Jack and Rodriguez listened to Viri’s account, and unlike Gagor, who took it lightly as a joke, they remained silent and contemplative, understanding the seriousness of the situation as professionals in the field.
“Could it be…?” Gagor Brown suddenly felt a sense of panic as he observed Jack and the geologist Rodriguez wearing solemn expressions. With the astronomical principles he had learned still fresh in his mind, if Viri’s reasoning were correct, it was entirely possible. The tenth planet that visits every four thousand years could not only affect Earth’s gravity, but it might also capture unknown small celestial bodies as satellites during its wide orbit. This could lead to a terrifying collision with the only life-bearing planet in the solar system.
Damn it, when did Viri Chuck learn to scare people? He sounded so serious.
Unlike public imaginations, Nibiru truly exists; NASA has been lying. Only senior insiders working with NASA are aware that it is the greatest secret gathering in the world and has become an unbearable truth for humanity.
“Ha ha, I’m just theorizing; there’s no need to be so tense. Look, time has already passed, and we’re all fine, aren’t we?”
Viri Chuck laughed heartily, breaking the heavy atmosphere.
“Hey, you really are trying to scare us to death.”
Gagor punched Viri Chuck hard, causing him to stumble back a step, and he sighed in relief as if to comfort himself, relieved his fear had subsided.
“Ha ha, yes, yes, old classmate, you’ve learned to joke.”
“Yes, Mr. Chuck, your theory is indeed very interesting. It’s quite fascinating; this is my first time hearing such a thing. It seems you’ve put considerable effort into this research.”
But for some reason, Gagor Brown felt that Chuck’s classmates and the geologist from Bronny Company were smiling rather stiffly.
“Ah!”
A long, piercing scream suddenly echoed in the wind.
Jack Roosevelt’s face changed dramatically, and he shouted, “What’s going on?”
In response, he heard the sounds of gunfire nearby, starting with a pistol and quickly followed by the rapid fire of automatic rifles.
“Damn! Someone must be attacking!”
Jack Roosevelt drew a pistol from behind his waist, his face filled with a fierce expression as he spoke to the nearby workers, “Stop cleaning up! Get the meteorite out immediately, and do it fast! White! White! Take your team and find out what’s happening. I authorize you to use any weapons necessary.”
He assumed it must be a rival competitor trying to attack them. Surely, the opponent had noticed the meteorite’s value and was eager to seize it.
This made him recall the East Asian man he had seen during the day and the stone in his hand. Jack could now confirm that guy must be a bastard from some collection team. If he had known, he would have dealt with that jerk on the spot. No matter how strong he was, bullets wouldn’t be stopped.
“Okay! Boss!”
White, the group leader of the security team in the convoy, was almost fully armed as if heading to battle. He had an ammunition chain strapped across his chest and held a light machine gun, rushing toward the sound of gunfire with several similarly armed men.
Such actions were not uncommon in Boulogne Mining Company’s meteorite collection teams, which scoured the world for fallen meteorites.
There were many mining companies worldwide, and Boulogne wasn’t the only one looking to develop space resources. Numerous countries, whether or not they had space development capabilities, formed similar collection teams, searching for fallen meteorites on Earth, as it was less costly than spending huge amounts to gather resources from space.
With advances in human technology, countries would eventually accumulate adequate space capability, and their preparations now would naturally pave the way for future developments.
After all, most meteorites vaporize before reaching the ground, and those fortunate enough to land are often scarce. Thus, friction and competition among collection teams often result in deadly conflicts. If disagreements arise, the consequences can be fatal.
Sometimes these skirmishes escalate into wars, concealed by mutual understanding among various factions. The public would only learn that a nation faced civil war or invasion due to resource issues.
In reality, this was simply the titanic struggle among major mineral and energy giants worldwide, where the victor claims the spoils and the defeated face extinction.
In some industries, disputes over clients and benefits can lead to fights and even deaths, but these conflicts pale in comparison to the struggles between larger factions; they are hardly worth mentioning—child’s play in comparison.
Jack Roosevelt chambered a round and said, “Viri, Mr. Brown, you’d better leave here quickly. This situation might spiral out of control!” Enemies always provided him with unanticipated “surprises,” making it impossible for him to ensure the safety of his old classmates during combat.
“Okay, okay!”
Viri Chuck and Gagor Brown agreed with the suggestion. As arms dealers who manufacture weapons, not soldiers who use them, they had never encountered such a scene. They hurriedly rushed to their Cherokee.
Jack Roosevelt’s prediction was correct; there indeed was a “surprise,” but this “surprise” was far beyond what he and his team could handle.
“Enemy attack!”
Finally, someone shouted. By this time, the gunfire had reached a fever pitch. Though it was impossible to tell how many enemies lurked in the darkness, the continuous screams indicated the ferocity of the enemy’s assault.
Everyone from Bronny Company in the meteorite crater gathered together, opened the ammunition boxes, and began distributing weapons. A large quantity of bullets, automatic rifles, handguns, machine guns, and grenades were handed out.
These employees had joined the collection team with a clear understanding of the potential for battle and death. Under generous rewards, brave warriors were sure to emerge. The company’s compensation and benefits for injuries and deaths were so generous that they were hard to refuse.
During regular military training and previous real-life engagements, they had learned to arm themselves and became seasoned fighters, ready to fend off competitors’ attacks. It wouldn’t be inaccurate to say they resembled a small mercenary unit.
However, more and more Bronny Company employees realized that the attackers were not human, but rather an incredibly terrifying monster.
Its massive head resembled the legendary dragon, with horns that looked like a crown, radiating an invisible force of oppression. Its mouth filled with dense, sharp teeth made it clear that a single bite could turn even a bull into mush; a Tyrannosaurus Rex might not even match its dreadfulness.
With a pair of enormous wings glistening like black metal, it gently swayed amidst the barrage of bullets, as if it were unaffected.
Its limbs were long and powerful, and its sharp claws effortlessly grabbed the solid ground as if it were cutting tofu.
Long spikes protruded from its joints, and its body was adorned with bizarre armor composed of sharp blades, its surface covered in complex and strange runes that shimmered with an unexplainable light.
The end of its long tail resembled a spectacularly crafted spear.
Two crimson vertical pupils glinted with ferocity in the darkness; this was a terrifying creature whose body length was comparable to two large buses.
Though there were no biologists in Bronny Company’s meteorite collection team, everyone who laid eyes on this beast was absolutely certain that such a fearsome monster could not exist on Earth.
Could it have fallen from space along with the meteor? Those with rich imaginations quickly began to speculate, but they couldn’t continue to ponder. The most terrifying slaughter festival of their lives had begun.
“Oh my God! What is that?! Open fire! Open fire!”
Instinctively grasped by the threat of life and death, every worker’s mind narrowed to only one thought: fire at it! They emptied the magazines of their guns, believing that eliminating the beast was their only chance to survive. Otherwise, they were doomed, with no opportunity to escape.
None of those firing weapons chose to flee; they perhaps knew deep down that running would be utterly futile.
Yet, regardless of whether it was handguns, rifles, machine guns, RPG rocket bombs, or grenades, every burst of fire, every explosion, barely affected the creature.
The grotesque and terrifying monster strolled leisurely through the rain of bullets, deftly pouncing on one ant after another that dared to shoot at it.
In fact, they were even less than ants; at least the great swordsmen of the Su Lan Empire could leave a deep mark on the gold giant dragon with their fierce blows, but these small-caliber weapons couldn’t even stir a ripple on its massive body.
Without skills, without tactics, every strike from the Gold Coin transformed a living human into mush. The pressure of its claws against the gravelly ground turned into a bloody millstone, leaving almost no trace of human form when it lifted its paw.
With a sweep of its tail, it sliced a hapless individual in half. In any world, those who couldn’t form a strong number and lacked sufficient power were forever the most tragic figures before a giant dragon.
This was merely a group of reckless fools feeding a colossal dragon from another realm. After all, despite their armament, they were still just a collection team, not a heavily armed strike force.
The screams blended into a death song. Lin Mo trailed behind the gold giant dragon, observing coldly as the dragon revelled in its slaughter.
Yes! Absolutely! Reveling!
The gold giant dragon hadn’t even entered a state of combat; this massacre wasn’t even a game. Those ants were too weak to resist.
The lights near the meteorite crater quickly flickered out one by one. Humanity’s innate fear of darkness erupted fully. The Bronny Company’s meteorite collection team suffered grievous losses. The gold giant dragon’s killing spree left only corpses behind—there were no survivors.
