Just a Lover

Chapter 3

Vanessa knew how to enter the room, but she had to wait outside because she wasn't sure what kind of password they would need to enter the same room.

Fortunately, she didn't have to wait long. Soon, she saw a tall figure coming from not far away.

Lucius was tall and straight. His face was pale, and his long platinum hair was draped over his shoulders. His strides were wide, and unlike his usual slow and elegant demeanor, there was a hint of imperceptible urgency.

"Malfoy …"

Before Vanessa could call out his honorific title, Lucius was already in front of her. He grabbed her wrist and walked back and forth in front of the tapestry. Then a door appeared and he pulled her in. Vanessa lost her balance and almost fell to the ground.

She glanced at the carpet on the ground. It was expensive and luxurious. She then looked around. The high roof, the large space, and the elegant and reserved hall of the ancient nobility. Vanessa was stunned. This place …

"The living room of the Malfoy Manor."

Lucius explained. Vanessa quickly stood up and tidied her uniform. She looked at him and said, "Captain of the Malfoy, you can write to me if you need anything. You don't have to ask me to come here personally."

Lucius chuckled disdainfully and said, "Waste my letter for you?"

Vanessa pursed her lips and turned her beautiful eyes away. She didn't say anything.

Lucius frowned and sat on a chair in annoyance. He looked at her and said, "Let's make a deal."

Vanessa looked at him in surprise. She didn't feel that she had the right to make a deal with the future head of the Malfoy family.

"Come to my side."

He suddenly said this. Vanessa was stunned. When she reacted, she had already walked to his side.

He was sitting and she was standing. He looked up slightly and she lowered her head. It was the first time she looked at him from this angle. There was an indescribable sense of novelty.

"I heard that your muggle father divorced your mother."

When he spoke, his voice had returned to its usual noble and elegant tone. His gray-blue eyes seemed to be sizing her up. Vanessa felt uncomfortable.

She said reluctantly, "Yes."

"Your life is … very tight …" He chose a slightly less unpleasant word to describe her family situation. He frowned slightly and said, "Although your mother is not from a noble family, she is at least from a pure-blood family. I really don't understand why she would choose a vulgar, ignorant, and cowardly Muggle as her husband."

Vanessa's face paled. "Captain Malfoy, I don't think you're so free as to investigate the family situation of a junior that's not even worth mentioning. You even took the time to analyze it in front of her."

Lucius seemed to have heard something funny. He chuckled and stared at her with his cold gray-blue eyes. "Of course, I'm not that free. I'm going to graduate soon and have a lot of things to do, such as inheriting the family and preparing for the wedding."

Vanessa's face darkened at the mention of wedding preparations. She stood in the dim light and turned her head sideways. Her blonde hair fell over her shoulders, and a few strands drifted to Lucius's cheek. He looked sideways and avoided her gaze.

"Then what exactly do you mean?"

Vanessa didn't even want to use honorifics. She stood there stiffly and didn't move.

Lucius was silent for a while. Just when she thought that he might not be used to being straightforward when discussing "deals" with people, he opened his thin lips and said in a low voice, "What I mean is very simple."

He stood up and Vanessa had to look up at him again. Her neck was a little sore as she looked at him. He said softly, "I can provide shelter for your family."

Vanessa was stunned at first. When she realized what he had said, her face was full of disbelief.

"But you have to pay a price." He quickly continued.

Vanessa was stunned. "What price?"

Before she could figure out why such a good thing had fallen into her lap, she heard the price she had to pay.

"Be my lover.

Just a lover. "

Vanessa didn't even know how she got back to the dormitory that night.

As soon as she closed her eyes, she saw Lucius's natural and even indifferent expression when he made his request.

There was no desire or love in his cold eyes, as if he was really just looking for something to pass the time.

"Hey!

Vanessa!

Stop adding the dried nettles!

You'll ruin this pot of magic potion! "

Anji's frightened voice sounded. Vanessa suddenly came back to her senses. She looked at the dried nettles in her hand and then at the boiling pot. She sighed and said, "Thank goodness you reminded me, Anji. Otherwise, it would have been over."

She carefully glanced at Professor Slughorn. He was walking around Gryffindor and didn't notice anything strange. Thank goodness.

"You've been absent-minded for the past few days. What's wrong?" Anji said as he continued to brew the magic potion. "Did something happen?

Maybe you can tell me about it? "

Vanessa pursed her lips and said, "No, nothing. I just ran into a problem. It'll be solved soon."

Anji looked thoughtful. Since she didn't want to talk about it, he didn't force her. He continued to brew the magic potion.

At the end of the class, Professor Slughorn looked at the magic potion Vanessa handed in and was stunned. He glanced at her pale face and coughed softly. "Miss Albert, if you're not feeling well, you can go to the Medical Wing to have a look."

Vanessa thanked him and ran out of the classroom. Narcissa followed her and glanced at her back.

"Sissy."

Rozier came out of the classroom and took Narcissa's hand. Narcissa quickly pulled her hand away and looked around vigilantly. After making sure that no one had seen them, she looked at him.

"Do you know what you're doing?" She frowned and asked.

"I know what I'm doing better than Lucius Malfoy."

Hunter Rozier left with Narcissa. As they walked, he said, "I don't know why you have to marry him. You know that he doesn't love you."

Narcissa said coldly, "I don't love him either."

Rozier was puzzled. "If that's the case, why did you get married?"

"Are you confused, Hunter? Do you need me to remind you that Lucius and I were engaged when we were in the fourth grade?"

"But you don't love each other at all!"

"Love is not important. I think Mr. Rozier, who comes from a similar background as me, knows this very well."

Based on the premise of matching in social status, love was not worth mentioning among the fewer and fewer pure-blood nobles. Take the Black Family as an example. In order to ensure the purity of the bloodline, Walbuga Black also married Olen Black, her cousin whom she didn't like.

Narcissa grew up in such an environment. She didn't care about what Rozier mentioned.

Lucius Malfoy was the fiancé that her family had decided for her a long time ago. He was also the first choice that could bring her enough dignity and benefits. She would not give up on him.

"Sissy."

Rozier stopped Narcissa's quick steps. He pursed his lips and said, "But I love you. You know what? I love you.

You can marry me. "

Narcissa stopped and looked at him. "Of course, Rozier's family is not bad."

Rozier's eyes lit up. But soon Narcissa said, "But it's not what I want.

Hunter, you know that I won't turn back. "

"… Then what do you want me to do?" Rozier asked sadly.

Narcissa didn't say anything. She just turned around and left. Roqier looked at her back and was silent for a long time. Then, he quickly chased after her and said, "Then, at least let me accompany you, no matter what."

Narcissa paused. When Rozier took her hand again, she looked around. After making sure that no one was around, she didn't refuse.

"I know."

At the Slughorn's Slug Club party, Lucius and Narcissa stood together. Both of them had the typical fake smile of aristocrats. The angle of their slightly raised chins was surprisingly similar. It had to be said that they were a very compatible pair in terms of appearance and upbringing.

"About you and Rozier."

He simply expressed that he wasn't a fool who would be kept in the dark. But his tone was calm, as if he wasn't angry at all.

Narcissa observed his expression and nodded. "I also know about you and that mixed-blood Vanessa Albert."

Lucius wasn't surprised. He clinked glasses with Narcissa. "I think we can reach a consensus, right?"

Narcissa smiled. Her smile was kind and polite. "Of course."

Lucius nodded with satisfaction and smiled. "Then, for the common good."

He raised his glass to her. She responded. From afar, the two of them seemed to be talking happily and sweetly.

"But, Lucius, you have to promise me one thing. Only I can give birth to the heir of the Malfoy family."

Before the party ended, Narcissa suddenly emphasized.

Lucius didn't hesitate. "Of course. I have no intention of destroying the Malfoy family."

Narcissa was completely satisfied and left the party happily. Lucius stood in place and looked at Vanessa who also came to the party. She was standing with a Ravenclaw pureblood. The pureblood looked at her face with fascination and wanted to hold her hand several times. Lucius frowned and put down his glass. When Vanessa looked at him as if she understood something, he glanced at her coldly and turned to leave.

Vanessa held the glass in her hand and moved away from the classmate next to her. She rejected his invitation to stay at his house during the summer vacation and said in a low voice, "No, thank you."

The young man wearing a blue striped tie looked at her in disappointment. He wanted to say something, but Vanessa moved away.

The days passed and it was time for the exam. After the exam and summer vacation, Vanessa would enter the seventh grade and the Malfoy would graduate completely and go back to inherit the family.
