Just a Lover
Chapter 5
Compared to the house Vanessa and her mother lived in, the villa in Wiltshire was much more luxurious.
The furniture here was all expensive. Although it was just a "small" house that seemed to be too empty for the owner to live in, it was still a place that even Vanessa's mother's house couldn't compare to.
Lockhee seemed to be very happy. She seemed to have found the feeling of being a young lady again. She happily wandered from room to room like a butterfly.
Vanessa stood at the corner of the second floor and looked at her mother. She slowly withdrew her gaze and walked into her own room.
She had made up her mind to move as soon as possible. She didn't want to pay too much attention to this house, but when she opened the wardrobe, she found that the owner obviously didn't think that she would move.
In addition to her old clothes, there were many new clothes hanging in the wardrobe. These new clothes included everything she needed, inside and out. There were even a few expensive plain school robes.
Vanessa frowned and took off the school robe. The material of the school robe was a special material that she had only seen on Lucius Malfoy. It seemed to be unique to the Malfoy family. Other than Lucius Malfoy, she hadn't seen anyone else in the school wearing a school robe made of this material.
It was soft to the touch, but it was sharp and stylish. Vanessa's second-hand robes couldn't compare at all.
There was no girl who didn't want to be beautiful.
That was also why Vanessa didn't wear glasses to make herself look ugly and keep a low profile even though she could have done so.
She only had two advantages: her looks and her grades. She didn't want to become so ugly. After all, she was a Slytherin. She didn't want to become "trash" in other people's eyes. She tried her best to keep herself clean. In fact, she envied the various dresses and jewelry of the noble ladies, but she knew that she couldn't show it.
Once a person started to face their inner desires, it would become difficult to satisfy them, and they would even go completely crazy.
Vanessa put on the school robe and walked to the mirror. She looked at her reflection. The magic mirror wanted to praise her, but she asked it to shut up.
She slowly raised her hand and covered her face. Then she tore off the new school robe.
She put on her old dress, went to the desk, took out her quill, and began to write.
The letter was addressed to Professor Slughorn. Although her request seemed a little offensive, she had to try anything before her soul was completely corroded by these substances.
There was still some time before the end of the summer vacation. During this period of time, she was not idle. Lucius had left Dobbi here. She did not know if it was for the convenience of their lives or simply to keep an eye on her.
She didn't want to be too conceited and think that he was really interested in her because he had never shown any interest in her on the surface. Even during the incident in the abandoned classroom, he had remained calm the entire time and didn't seem to be immersed in it.
She felt that the reason why he was so insistent on making this "deal" with her was because, on one hand, she was indeed pretty, and on the other hand, it might have aroused his competitive spirit.
After all, this was probably the first time someone had rejected the Malfoy. He was definitely not used to it and did not believe that anyone could resist his wealth, status, and excellent conditions.
He had a handsome face, an elegant and noble way of speaking, and a pleasant voice.
If it were any other girl, they would have been very excited to meet such a situation. However, although Vanessa was poor and had no principles, she still had a bottom line that could not be compromised.
She found a short-term summer job in Madam Morjin's robe shop. Basically, she would tailor the clothes for the people who came to the shop to make wizard robes, and help Madam Morjin entertain the guests.
This kind of low-skill job was not what Vanessa wanted to do in the past, but she had no choice. The premise of dignity and pride was that you had to at least be able to eat and wear.
Madam Morjin was a short and fat witch. She was cheerful, generous, and very kind.
She liked Vanessa very much because Vanessa was beautiful, gentle, and could speak well. She was able to take care of all the guests who came and went.
What surprised her even more was that Vanessa was the best model. Every time she put on the new clothes she made, there would always be an endless stream of witches coming to ask about them. The shop's sales had significantly increased after Vanessa came to work. Even when the reporters of the Witch Weekly came to take pictures of the latest clothes, they used Vanessa as their model.
In the Malfoy Manor, Lucius Malfoy, who had just returned home after a busy day, was sitting on the sofa. The house-elf immediately served him a cup of expensive black tea. He held the cup and took a sip, indifferently flipping through today's newspaper.
There were some other newspapers under the daily newspaper of the Prophet. He frowned slightly and flipped open the Witch Weekly at the bottom of the pile. He stared blankly at the picture on the cover.
"Who ordered this newspaper?" Lucius frowned and asked.
"Master!" The house-elf Jedda was a little flustered. "It's the old master!
The old master ordered this newspaper! "
Abraxas Malfoy's son was not surprised at all that Abraxas Malfoy would order a magazine like the Witch Weekly. The corner of Lucius's mouth twitched. Jedda thought that he would fly into a rage, but strangely, he only asked this one question and then fell silent.
His gaze fell on the newspaper. The picture on the cover was the picture of Vanessa.
She stood uncomfortably in front of the mirror. She was wearing the latest season's collection from Madam Morkin's Robe Shop, a dark purple witch robe. It was cinched at the waist, revealing her slender waistline. Even the part of her neck that was usually tightly sealed was exposed under the robe.
Her beautiful collarbone was white and delicate. Lucius's gray-blue eyes slowly moved away from the newspaper. His memory seemed to return to the abandoned classroom in the Hogwarts. That night, her whole body seemed to be shining in the darkness.
"Enough."
The newspaper was slammed on the table. Jedda, who was waiting for orders, was startled. She was about to hit the wall when she heard her master coldly say, "Put this newspaper away.
Also, don't order this kind of magazine in the future. "
After saying this, Lucius did not know who he was angry with. He did not plan to eat dinner. He went directly to the fireplace, took the floo powder, pursed his lips, and said an address. In an instant, he disappeared into the flames.
Jedda was speechless. Well, the old master has been sick in bed for a long time. He probably has no mood to read this kind of newspaper. If he doesn't order it, then don't order it. The words of the new master are more important.
When Vanessa returned home, it was already a little late. Dobbi prepared dinner for her. Her mother, on the other hand, said that she was going to a friend's party. She dressed up and went out.
Vanessa looked at her mother's back as she left. During this period of living in Lucius's house, her mother seemed to have found her old self. She seemed to feel that she could finally hold her head up high. She was no longer absent-minded and depressed. She even took the initiative to contact her old classmates and friends.
It was a good thing that her mother had started to socialize again, but Vanessa was not happy.
Sooner or later, they would leave this place. It would probably be during her Christmas break. When that time came, she did not know if her mother would still be able to smile.
Perhaps she would return to the way she was in the past. This voice rang in Vanessa's mind. She shook her head to get rid of this worried voice. After a simple dinner, she was ready to return to her room.
The moment she stepped out of the dining room, a sound came from the fireplace. Vanessa quickly looked over and saw Lucius walk out with a cold expression.
He was wearing an exquisite and expensive black velvet robe with a dark red lining. Underneath the robe, he wore a spotless white shirt with ornate and complicated buttons.
He was holding the snake-headed cane that belonged to the head of the Malfoy family. When Vanessa saw the cane, she knew that he had completed the inheritance. The old Malfoy, who was rumored to be bedridden, did not have much time left.
"Miss Albert, you've been working so hard. Didn't Madam Morkin give you one of her new clothes of the season?"
Lucius lifted his chin slightly, and a cold sneer flowed out of his mouth. His voice was pleasant to the ears, but his choice of words was irritating. He glanced at her old clothes and contemptuously said, "Maybe you won't be able to earn enough money to buy a new gown even if you work there until school starts. Am I right?"
Vanessa took a deep breath to force herself to calm down. She did not know why Lucius, who had helped her so many times in school, would become like this. She had always thought that he was a good person with a cold exterior but a warm heart. But now it seemed that she had not really interacted with him at that time. After they got to know each other a little better, his tone and manner of speaking could really hurt her.
"Is Mr. Malfoy here to urge me to move out?" Vanessa stood there, clenching her fists and pursing her lips.
Lucius frowned slightly. He was unhappy with the meaning of her words. He said coldly, "You know that's not the case."
Vanessa did not listen to him at all. She said stubbornly, "I'll only stay here until Christmas. I'll definitely move out by then. I'll pay the rent for the time I'm staying here."
Lucius coldly raised his lips. "Can you afford it?"
Vanessa choked. Indeed, this was not an ordinary house. This was the property of the Malfoy family. Everything here was so luxurious that dozens or even hundreds of gold coins could not buy it.
Her face turned pale and she had nothing to say. Her frail body stood there for a long time before she said, "Then I'll move out in the next few days as soon as possible."
She could not care less about her mother's thoughts and the financial difficulties. Her rationality told her not to let her emotions affect her decisions, but the impulse to protect her dignity made her lose her rationality.
Lucius stepped in front of Vanessa. He lowered his eyes and stared into her green, straight eyes. His gorgeous, deep voice sounded in her ear. "Are you being difficult with me?"
Vanessa was stunned.
"Do you have to go against me? Are you only happy to see me angry because of this?"
Lucius pressed closer. His words made Vanessa blush. Her blush made her look even more beautiful. Lucius had seen this face for six years, but even after six years, he still did not get tired of it.
"Vanessa."
He called her name. Vanessa slowly looked up and met his cold, gray-blue eyes. She saw that the corners of his eyes seemed to curve. Then he took out a velvet gift box from his pocket. The gift box was tied with a beautiful green ribbon. He handed it to her and said, "Birthday present."
For the past six years, every time Vanessa celebrated her birthday, there was no present from him.
They were not friends at all. Their identities were so different that it was normal for him not to give her a present. It would be strange if he did.
But in fact, he had prepared a present every year. They were all locked in a drawer in his bedroom. No one except himself knew about it.
It was only this year that he found a way to give her a present without attracting attention.
"Aren't you going to keep it?"
Lucius's thin lips opened and closed. It seemed to be a question, but in fact, it was an order to her.
Vanessa lowered her head and took it instinctively. She did not need to open it to know that the thing inside must be very valuable.
"Don't think about selling it. No one dares to accept something from the Malfoy family."
Lucius's next words shattered Vanessa's fantasy. In fact, even if she could sell it, she would not dare to. She did not even dare to accept it.
She looked up and wanted to say something, but the cold touch on her lips made her freeze in place.
Soon, the scene in front of her eyes changed to her bedroom. Lucius's magic wand was inside his family's cane, exquisite and hidden. His beautiful silent curse made Vanessa absent-minded. When she reacted, everything was too late.
At night.
Vanessa suddenly woke up. Her eyes were wide open. She seemed to hear a man's sexy, deep breathing in her ears.
She looked to her side. Lucius was sitting by the bed, wearing a shirt and trousers. He was staring at his arm, as if he was deep in thought or just in a daze.
Vanessa looked at his arm. There was nothing there. It was smooth and white. To be honest, even she did not dare to say that her skin was much better than his.
"What are you looking at?" She opened her mouth to speak, only to realize that her voice was hoarse.
Lucius looked back. In the darkness, his gray-blue eyes stared at her. He did not say anything. He just pulled down his sleeves and put on his robe with Dobbi's help. He held his cane and was ready to leave.
Vanessa waved her magic wand and looked at the time. It was past three o 'clock in the evening.
"I'll come to see you again before school starts."
He walked to the door and said this before disappearing. It was as if Vanessa was already a piece of meat on his chopping board and he had already begun to exercise his power.
