Just a Lover

Chapter 7

Vanessa returned to her dormitory and dug out most of the love letters she had received on Valentine's Day in the Hogwarts for six years. She said that most of them had been lost due to accidents.

She began to sift through the thick stack of letters. First, she directly eliminated those that had only been sent once, then she arranged the rest according to the year. Finally, she found that there was someone who had written her a love letter for six years in a row.

If nothing went wrong, she should receive a love letter from him on Valentine's Day this year.

Vanessa held the letter in her hand. Should she say that she was lucky?

The other party was easy to contact. They were in the same grade and in the same school. She only had to stop him after class or when she returned to the common room.

Or, she could write a letter to set up a place to meet.

But …

She looked at the signature on the letter. Simon Lestrange. The Lestrange family was no stranger to her. It was a pure-blooded family like the Malfoy. Although it was not as noble as the Malfoy, it was still a family that could not be underestimated.

Vanessa was discouraged. She stuffed the letter back and began to despair.

It was not easy to find a good choice. After persisting for six years, she probably would not be scared away by Lucius. But it was Lestrange. Vanessa could almost imagine how the Lestrange family would react if she really got involved with him. Getting him to be her boyfriend was like adding fuel to the fire.

The next day.

In the common room, Vanessa saw Simon Lestrange. He was walking with three people, discussing the wedding of his brother Rodolfs and Bellatrix Black.

"They are a good match. The wedding was very grand."

Simon said in a gentle tone, neither too fast nor too slow. Whether it was his appearance or the way he spoke, he seemed to be very easy to get along with.

"But I have a feeling that your brother's new wife did not like the marriage." The person next to Simon said. "She pulled a long face the entire wedding." He imitated it exaggeratedly, causing Simon to frown.

"You're wrong. They're very loving."

Simon emphasized and suddenly looked in Vanessa's direction. Vanessa quickly turned her head away and pretended to be reading seriously. Severus Snape, who was sitting not far away, snorted coldly.

Vanessa glanced at Snape and no longer paid attention to Lestrange, but she could still hear their soft conversation.

"I heard that Bellatrix is a loyal follower of that lord. She has already joined that lord's organization. Did your brother join as well?"

Simon frowned and whispered, "Don't talk about this in school. Didn't I tell you before?"

That person was Avery, who also came from a pure-blooded family and was the leader of the fifth grade. "What are you afraid of? This is Slytherin, who doesn't know that person?

Maybe we'll meet many of our classmates at the Christmas gathering this year. "

He seemed very excited and was looking forward to the Christmas gathering. Lestrange pursed her lips and looked at Vanessa's back again. Severus Snape was sitting next to her. It was not a rare sight for two mixed-bloods to sit together and be ostracized by others.

Vanessa slowly put away her book. She had completely given up on the idea of being a boyfriend with Simon Lestrange. It was not difficult to deduce from their conversation that Lestrange's family was not ordinary. She, as a mixed-blood, would definitely be killed if she got involved in such a complicated relationship.

Vanessa hugged her book and left the common room. Snape had a bigger place to study, but Lestrange was a little disappointed.

Vanessa spent the next few days in a daze. Other than Lestrange, the one who persisted the longest in love letters was Gryffindor. Gryffindor should have the courage to go against Slytherin, right? He shouldn't be scared off by Lucius, right?

Vanessa took the time to look at the long table opposite her when she was eating in the auditorium. The four robbers were the most eye-catching. Potter was cheering for his Quidditch victory, and Cyrius Black was sitting there eating out of boredom. He was handsome, and there was probably no other boy at the long table who was more handsome than him. His every move attracted the attention of the girls, but not Vanessa.

Vanessa's gaze was fixed on the person beside him … Peter Pediru.

Peter was thin and small. As a third-year student, he was shorter than Black by a head, and not even as tall as Vanessa. She didn't know why he was assigned to Gryffindor. Weren't Gryffindor members supposed to be courageous?

But this guy … why did he look so honest that he was a little cowardly?

"Why is Albert staring at you, Peter?"

James Potter noticed Vanessa's gaze. Vanessa's nonchalant stare and deep in thought made Peter Pediru's face turn red. He frantically waved his hand to indicate that he didn't know. Potter looked at him strangely, and then at Vanessa. Vanessa's beautiful brows were furrowed, and it took her a long time to look away.

"Hey!

The voting for the new Most Beautiful Girl in Hockwarts has begun!

Let's vote!

Everyone, please vote for the goddess in your hearts! "

Sure enough, the people who made the boring ranking were from Gryffindor. A junior student held two ballot boxes and said with a smile, "Today is the election between Lily Evans and Vanessa Albert. Can Evans, who came from behind, win more votes than Albert, who won six consecutive championships?

It depends on who you vote for. "

Cyrius glanced at the people who were shouting and said with a cold face, "Boring." However, a ballot appeared in his hand. This was magic. Wherever the person who was canvassing for votes passed by, a ballot would appear in the hands of the people there.

Peter Pediru blushed and voted for Vanessa. Potter saw this and said unhappily, "Peter, how can you vote for a girl from Slytherin?

You should vote for Evans! "

Peter stammered, "But I've already voted …"

Potter was a little unhappy, but he didn't say anything. He pulled Lu Pin, who hadn't voted yet, and said, "Limes, you must vote for Evans. Evans is much prettier than Albert!"

Lu Pin had no choice but to vote for Evans under Potter's request. After the magic ballot was thrown into the box, it became weightless and only a number was added to the ranking. When Potter came over to canvass for votes, Cyrius said indifferently, "I've already voted."

Potter hurriedly asked, "Who did you vote for, Cyrius?"

Cyrius said without hesitation, "Of course it was Evans."

Potter smiled and was satisfied. However, Vanessa's vote was added to the ranking.

Vanessa's mind was in a mess. She didn't notice the votes on the other side of the table. Her hopes were dashed because of the two boyfriends she couldn't choose. She dejectedly got up and left the auditorium. She thought disappointedly. Maybe she could find someone who could fight against Lucius and cooperate with him, but what benefits could she bring to him?

The plan didn't go well. Vanessa's homework was also slow. She leaned on the library table and fiddled with the textbook. She held the quill in her hand, but couldn't write a single word.

The sun shone through the window and sprinkled on her body. Her lazy appearance attracted a lot of attention. The boys gathered around her whispered to each other, which attracted the attention of the librarian.

"Do you like to be the center of attention wherever you go?"

A disgusted voice sounded above her head. Vanessa looked up and met Cyrius Black's grey eyes.

She unexpectedly stood up. This was a completely subconscious reaction. This action caused her head to hit Black's head. Both of them cried out in pain and stepped back together, leaning against the bookshelf.

The librarian finally couldn't stand it anymore and shouted, "You two!

If you don't keep quiet, then get out! "

Vanessa held her head. She felt that there was a big bump on it. She angrily glared at Black. Black glared back at her. He didn't feel that he was in the wrong. Vanessa was speechless. "Can't you treat your senior with the attitude you should have?

Black. "

Cyrius sneered. "Senior?

Where are you?

Why don't I see you? "

"You!

…? "

Vanessa inadvertently glanced at the cover of the book in his arms. She frowned. "You're studying the Animagus?"

Black immediately put the book away and hid it in his school robe. He coldly said, "That's none of your business."

After that, he walked away without looking back.

Vanessa felt that her head didn't hurt anymore. Instead, it was a toothache. She wanted to give him some advice on his studies, but this was his reaction. Forget it.

She angrily went to her afternoon class. When the class ended in the evening, Vanessa returned to the dormitory. Anji wasn't back yet. She was probably dating in some corner. She was already in the seventh grade. Could it be that she couldn't find a suitable partner?

Sigh. Actually, it wasn't that she couldn't find one. It was just that she couldn't find one who had the ability to compete with Lucius, who wouldn't back down immediately, and who could accept her identity.

Flipping through the love letters again, Vanessa unconsciously turned her gaze to the bottom drawer where Lucius' letter was locked.

She'd better take a look. Running away wasn't a solution. Only by knowing yourself and your enemy could you win a hundred battles.

Persuading herself, Vanessa got off the bed and opened the drawer. She took out the letter that was like a hot potato and slowly opened it.

There wasn't much content in the letter. There was only one sentence.

At the beginning of the letter, Lucius called her by her name without even a polite prefix. As for the content of the letter, it was even more frightening. He only wrote one sentence on the letter.

Do you really think you can run away?

Do you really think you can run away?

Vanessa could almost see the puzzled and cold expression on his face as he wrote the letter. Her gaze fell on the end of the letter, L. M. After confirming that this letter was indeed from the noble head of the Malfoy family, Lucius Malfoy, Vanessa's mind went back to the rhetorical question in the letter. She tore the letter into pieces and threw it into the envelope. Then, she chanted the Vanishing Spell.

Finally, it was done.

But she wasn't relieved at all.

The next day was the weekend. There were no classes, so Vanessa didn't go anywhere. She stayed in the dormitory like a corpse. She hadn't received any reply from her mother recently. She didn't know what she was doing or if she had gone to look for a house. Christmas was coming soon. She hoped that when she returned home, she would hear that her mother had found a house.

Turning over, Vanessa was about to sleep when someone knocked on the dormitory door. A female student said to her strangely, "Professor Slughorn wants you to go to his office."

Vanessa was stunned. "Now?"

"Yes, now, hurry up and go." She urged him, then turned around and went back to her dormitory.

Vanessa hesitated at the door for a while. She put on her school robe, tidied up her appearance, and went to the dean's office.

Standing at the door, she was about to knock when the door was opened from the inside. However, it wasn't Slughorn who was waiting for her, but …

"Long time no see, Miss Albert."

Lucius Malfoy stood at the door and looked down at Vanessa. He held the snake-headed cane in his hand and his gray-blue eyes were cold. He said sarcastically, "You tore my letter, didn't you?

You always exceed my expectations. I'm about to see you in a new light. "

Vanessa said in surprise, "How did you know?"

Lucius snorted and pulled her into the office. He pressed her against the door and said, "Idiot, I added a tracking spell on the letter. You tore it after reading it. Did you think that I wouldn't notice?"

"… Don't I even have the right to deal with a letter?"

Vanessa leaned against the door of the dean's office. Lucius was strangling her so hard that she almost suffocated.

"Let go of me!"

She struggled and her face was covered with an unhealthy blush. Lucius finally let go of her slowly and stepped back to distance himself from her.

"Ahem, ahem."

Vanessa coughed twice. Before she could complain about his barbaric behavior that was not at all Malfoy, she heard him speak again.

"Narcissa gave you the invitation?"

Vanessa was stunned and nodded.

"Why didn't you just tear up the invitation?

Just like how you tore my letter. "

Vanessa: "… Can we not talk about this anymore?"

Lucius straightened his robe and said with a cold face, "You dared to do it and you're still afraid of others talking about it."

"The letter was written to me, so it belongs to me. It's my freedom to deal with it however I want."

Vanessa braced herself and said. Then she quickly changed the topic. "As for the invitation, I don't plan to go. You don't have to be nervous."

"What a joke. Why should I be nervous?"

"Yes, you won't be nervous. Anyway, I won't go. Now that you know, can you leave with peace of mind?"

Vanessa looked at him with red eyes. She still felt a little sad when she thought about how Narcissa looked when she handed her the letter.

How did things turn out like this today?

Back then, she had given him the Spirit Blessing Elixir with good intentions. How did things develop to such an unmanageable stage in the end?

This story taught us that impulse was the devil. It was really bad. She had never lived a day of peace after being impulsive once.

Lucius's cold face inexplicably softened.

He looked at Vanessa quietly for a while and said to her in a low voice, "If you want to go, then go."

Vanessa was stunned and looked at him in surprise. He pursed his lips and said, "But I don't have time to entertain you at the wedding. Don't expect anything."

"… I never thought about going. I don't have the hobby of embarrassing myself."

Vanessa took a breath and said, "Can I go now?"

Lucius seemed a little tired.

He frowned tiredly and said lightly, "I've been very busy recently. It's not easy for me to come here. Is this how you treat me?"

Vanessa was also tired. She looked at him hopelessly and said, "It's not easy for me to live. I admit that I was wrong. I shouldn't have asked to meet you that day. Can you forget everything and let me go?"

Lucius stared at her and said, "Do you really want me to let you go?"

Vanessa was stunned and bit her lip.

"I have to go."

He looked at his pocket watch and changed back into the noble and arrogant head of the Malfoy family. "Don't try to write to your mother about moving away. You probably don't know yet, but she has already held a party in that house. She has met many new friends, including the parents of your roommate, Anji Brown. Do you think she can still leave everything and move away as you want under such circumstances?"

"How does she know Anji's parents?" Vanessa said in astonishment. "You introduced her to them, didn't you?"

Lucius said indifferently, "I don't have that much time to interfere with your mother's social life, but it's undeniable that they were very warm and friendly to her when they saw her living in the Malfoy family's house."

Vanessa stood there stiffly and threw out her last straw. "But even so, I won't compromise. I … I already have a boyfriend."

Lucius frowned slightly. His gorgeous tone was so cold that it almost turned into ice shards.

"Who is it?"

He almost squeezed the word out from between his teeth.

Vanessa felt an inexplicable sense of joy from her successful revenge. She stared at Lucius and threw the question back. "Don't you know?

Don't you seem to have everything under control?

Then why don't you investigate and see who it is? "

With that, Vanessa quickly turned and left. Lucius stood in place and didn't move for a long time until Slughorn came out of the fireplace and praised him for the trip to the magic potion shop.

Vanessa came out of the director's office. Even though she seemed to have the upper hand in the end, she still felt very uncomfortable.

Although her moral sense made her unwilling to admit her feelings, every time she saw Lucius, she couldn't help but want to be close to him.

She liked him.

In other words, she loved him.

Although she had always rejected his approach and arrangements, she couldn't really reject him emotionally.

She would even feel lucky and secretly happy for his persistence in a moment of absent-mindedness.

That was too ugly. Vanessa didn't dare to face those emotions directly.

She was precariously holding on to her dignity and values, but she seemed to be able to see that they were about to collapse.

Back in the dorm, Vanessa looked at the invitation from Narcissa again. She bit her lip and put it back in the box. She hadn't planned to attend, but maybe, maybe she should go and take a look so that she could completely destroy her thoughts that shouldn't exist.
