Notes on the Passive World
Chapter 3
The cold water vapor slowly slid down the outside of the vanilla milkshake, leaving a mottled water stain on the table.
Beside the table of Country M, there was a strange and awkward atmosphere.
The four of them sat across from each other, with hamburgers, fries, and fried chicken on their trays. For some reason, they looked like they were having a meal together.
There were many diners around, and many people were secretly looking at them.
People kept coming in through the glass cupboard outside after seeing the four of them. For a moment, Club M was full of people.
As the center of the crowd, the four of them didn't realize that they were being watched.
Huaguo hadn't eaten food from the human world for a long time, and it was fast food that she had never eaten before.
She curiously looked at the hamburger wrapper and tore open a bag of tomato. The strange way of eating attracted the gazes of the people around her.
Huaguo pretended not to notice the three youths secretly exchanging glances with each other. She tried to take a bite, and her eyes immediately began to sparkle.
It was delicious!
It was the two slices of bread on top.
It was dry, and there were always crumbs falling out.
She groped around and deliberately adjusted the hamburger to another angle, then squeezed a full bag of tomato sauce on top. It was bright red, and the meat and lettuce under the sauce were almost invisible.
She took a bite. As expected, it was the best!
The three teenagers didn't notice Huaguo's little movements at the moment, and were immersed in each other's glances.
"Hey, where did you meet such a cute girl?"
"I told you, I don't know anything."
"Stop pretending, you sly guy!"
"That … Speaking of which, aren't we here to practice basketball?"
"Tsk."
.....
After a long time, when Huaguo was about to finish the hamburger, the teenagers who were talking about something on the other side coughed dryly to signal the end of their "conversation."
"So, Huaguo -san, are you a foreigner?"
The one who spoke first was unexpectedly the least conspicuous Hei Zi.
His question not only attracted Huaguo's surprise, but the other two also raised their eyebrows in confusion.
Indeed.
Although he was able to communicate smoothly with Huaguo, the strange and awkward grammar and tone still made Hei Zi notice the difference.
When Lu Jian saw Huaguo just now, his heart was pounding. Now that he had calmed down, he could feel that something was different.
Seeing the three of them looking at him, Huaguo put down the hamburger in his hand and used the wrapping paper to cover the two slices of bread he deliberately left behind. He tried to put on a serious look. "You can say that."
"You said you didn't have an ID card or a wallet terminal. Did you encounter something bad?" Recalling Huaguo's explanation, Lu Jian hurriedly asked.
If that was the case, then it seemed that no matter what, he had to go to the police station.
"Terminal?"
Huaguo was stunned. His hand, which had been trying to hide the bread, paused, and the food residue, which had been hidden well by the wrapping paper, was accidentally exposed.
The teriyaki burger.
The chicken and lettuce that were originally inside were gone. Only the two slices of bread with sesame seeds were left.
The red sauce on the bread was still faintly visible. It was not clear how many packets of sauce were poured on it.
The serious faces of the three twisted for a moment.
The next moment, "Pfff —", a strange laughter sounded, but it was fleeting.
Even when the sound was made, Huaguo had already subconsciously glanced at the three of them, but he did not see who was laughing.
Hiding the bread again and again, Huaguo felt that his face, which had been built up over the years, was about to be wiped clean with the two slices of bread.
The tips of her ears were as red as blood, and even her fair face and neck were stained with a light pink color.
The young girl, at this moment, was as beautiful as a cherry blossom blooming on a tree outside.
Lu Jian tried her best to control the corner of her mouth that was trying to curl up. She pretended that she did not notice anything. After quickly removing the bread from the hamburger, she nonchalantly handed it to Huaguo.
She even contributed the two packets of ketchup that belonged to her.
"Yes, Terminal."
Before Huaguo could reject her offer, Lu Jian subconsciously didn't want to explain her actions. She took out a green terminal from her bag and flipped it twice in front of Huaguo's face to show her how to use it.
"This is it."
Hei Zi bit the straw of her milkshake with a puzzled look. "Don't Huaguo have this?"
Since the popularization of terminals, almost everyone had one. Now, people who did not recognize terminals were as rare as endangered species.
"Ah, I have one too."
Huaguo was shocked. His expression did not change as he tried to cover it up. "But the people in my hometown pronounce it differently. That's why, that's why I didn't react immediately."
Hei Zi nodded. That was true. Hei Zi did not suspect anything.
On the other hand, Lu Jian's fingers swiped the terminal even faster. "Huaguo -san, if you only lost your terminal, it would be fine. You could just use your ID to buy a new terminal. But with the new policy, every terminal is now bound to your ID. I'm afraid you can only go to the police now."
Green Peak took a bite of her hamburger indifferently. "What's wrong?
Didn't you want to go to the police station before? "
"Ah …" Huaguo was about to explain when she saw Lu Jian's ears turning redder as he buried his head in front of the terminal.
She paused. "Yes, we wanted to eat before going to the police station." She smiled. "Because Lu Jian is a very nice person."
He tidied up the hair hanging down from his temples, but he didn't mention that he didn't have any proof of identity.
The police station.
The last time he 'jumped', he had been there before. It was the most suitable place for him to go when he was completely clueless. Not to mention other things, the information inside was very complete. It was much faster than him fumbling around alone like now.
She only hoped that she would not be treated as a stowaway this time.
She smoothed her long hair and angrily took a bite of the hamburger meat in front of her. That was why she would rather fall into a wild jungle and have to fight with monsters than have to deal with this kind of one-on-one binding!
This feeling of being excluded from the world and only being superfluous made her feel out of place. After 'jumping' so many times, she still could not get used to it.
"Then, we'll send you there later?"
Green Peak did not dare to raise her head to look at Huaguo. She only squeezed her milkshake harder.
The straw on the milkshake was squeezed out by the force.
Lu Jian opened her mouth. A sense of helplessness rose from her heart. After a while, she said, "Yes, let's go together."
"Huaguo -san, do you still remember how you lost your things?"
"Yes?"
She put down her hand that was smoothing out her hair. "Yes, when I was on the street. When I came back to my senses, they were gone."
She had indeed lost them when she was on the street.
However, when she appeared here, she did not have them.
Her vague explanation made it seem more believable.
"So, it should be a pickpocket, right?" Hei Zi looked at Green Peak. "I didn't expect thieves to be so rampant nowadays."
"Hmph," Green Peak finished the rest of her milkshake. "If I find out who it is, I'll teach him a lesson."
"Ahem," Lu Jian pushed her glasses up. "Anyway, we're done eating. Let's send Huaguo — Huaguo -san to the police station."
.....
"I remember that this is not the only way to the police station, right?"
There was clearly a police station nearby, but they had inexplicably taken a detour and made several turns.
Green Peak gripped the basketball in her hand in dissatisfaction. At the same time, she kicked a pebble with her foot.
Hei Zi tugged at her sleeve. "Green Peak," he glanced at Lu Jian and Huaguo who were walking in front. "Maybe Lu Jian wants to go to the slightly bigger police station in front of the block."
"Eh?
Isn't it the same? "
"I don't mean to say this," Lu Jian looked at Huaguo vaguely. "Huaguo -san has nothing now. We'll go to the police station to prepare a case. Have you thought about where to stay first?"
After the youth met her face for some reason, he stared at her with a gaze that even Huaguo herself couldn't understand. However, he quickly retracted that gaze.
"My previous suggestion," he raised his hand to cover half of his face and pretended to push up his glasses to hide the blush underneath, "is still valid."
"Thank you," Huaguo nodded with a smile.
Fortunately, in this' jump ', the people he met so far were all good people.
Lu Jian did not receive a confirmation like before. She felt an inexplicable sense of loss.
However, she quickly sorted out her complicated emotions and pointed at a place not far away. "It's just around the corner," she signaled Huaguo to follow her and walked away without looking back.
No matter how long the road was, there would always be an end.
Looking at the unfamiliar building in front of him, there was a conspicuous word 'police' at the bottom.
It was an English sign. Huaguo calmed down and smiled for the first time in a long time.
Compared to Japanese, which he had just started to grasp, English, which he had touched during the last 'jump', was much more intimate.
Although it was not as familiar as the language he was most familiar with, he still felt a sense of relief from those few simple letters.
The smile was very faint and disappeared in the blink of an eye.
However, the three young men who followed him saw it and blushed strangely. They subconsciously avoided each other's eyes and did not dare to look at each other directly.
After entering the police station, Huaguo looked around with interest before sitting down on a chair at the side.
After listening to the three young men's explanation, the people in the station treated her as a foreign tourist and did not question her further.
Soon, people who could speak many languages came over and began to comfort and inquire about her.
Worried that Huaguo would feel uneasy being here alone, the three young men who accompanied her did not take the initiative to ask to leave.
"Huaguo -san, is it?"
"Hi."
"Chinese?"
"Hmm?
Hmm, hmm. "
Huaguo pulled the corner of her skirt and thought absent-mindedly, 'Humans … Well, forget it.'
"I'm Fu Gaoming, the person in charge of receiving you. My favorite thing is Chinese literature. Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you."
Although the person who came had a moustache and a pair of phoenix eyes that were slightly strange, overall, he looked like a reliable police officer.
