Dragon Rider Warplane
Chapter 774
Chapter 774: Request for Credit
“Didn’t you two hear clearly? My bet with him is that I work for him, not for you!”
Maisha Wright looked at the three men with a mischievous grin, completely unbothered about inconveniencing her future boss a little.
Seeing Lin Mo get flustered made her feel balanced again, allowing her to reclaim some of the frustrations and shocks she had experienced after meeting this guy.
It seemed ever since she encountered him, Maisha felt that her nervous system needed to be as strong and resilient as steel cables; otherwise, she would eventually break down from all this stimulation.
The little girl needed some psychological balance as well.
Director Jin’s face stiffened slightly; this bet lacked any sense of order or discipline. How could a captive belong to their capturer? This wasn’t a slave society; one couldn’t just take someone from a bet as if military discipline and rules meant nothing.
Major Huang’s expression was also not pleasant. He had missed the linguistic trap just moments ago and said, “Come on, brother, that’s really unfair.”
He had witnessed this little girl’s stubbornness; if she took her bet with Lin Mo seriously, they would have a headache on their hands. Just after one issue was resolved, another one emerged.
“Ha, don’t worry! Bets are bets; everything will go through the proper channels! I won’t make it hard for you!”
Lin Mo smiled slightly, thanks to the authority of the Night Special Forces, which allowed for quick personnel transfers. Perhaps this matter could be handled swiftly.
With a top computer expert as backup support, Lin Mo and the Gold Coin would save a lot of trouble.
Compared to the experts appointed by superiors, Lin Mo and the dragon trusted the team they had brought.
Upon hearing Lin Mo say this, Director Jin and Major Huang’s expressions improved a bit. As long as they followed the proper process and obtained superiors’ authorization, they would certainly carry out their orders, leaving any responsibility behind.
“Alright then. Without orders, I can’t just release anyone. I hope you can understand.”
Director Jin let out a sigh of relief.
“Okay! No problem!”
This was all within expectations; there would be no reason for them not to release her when the time came. Lin Mo nodded and continued, “Let her stay with you for a while. I will soon have the approval sorted out, and I won’t violate any rules.”
It was likely that Captain Feng Chenye wouldn’t miss out on such a talent, and before departing, Lin Mo had also hinted at the staff group and Captain Feng about his plans, so they would probably support him.
Lin Mo took out a check, filled it out quickly, and handed it to Major Huang, saying, “This is for my damage to public property and to ease your worries.”
After all, he had personally broken their window, and if he didn’t express something in return, it would be embarrassing.
“Don’t worry; she will be absolutely safe with us. Leave your contact information, and should there be any further orders from above — if it’s not too confidential — I can let you know in advance.”
Major Huang noticed the amount on the check, which surprised him slightly. He found that number rather satisfactory.
The money wasn’t a lot, just two hundred thousand, but it was not insignificant either.
Although the military base operated with state funds, this amount would certainly make the base’s little treasury much richer.
Lin Mo showed generosity, and Major Huang naturally returned the favor, offering a promise.
The two exchanged smiles, and their brief unpleasantness quickly vanished.
Seeing Director Jin with an envious expression, Major Huang clapped him on the shoulder and said, “Old Jin, don’t be jealous. I’ll treat you to dinner today; you choose the place, pick any dishes, I’ll cover the bill!”
“Of course, it should be your treat today! No need to choose a different place; just let your cafeteria chef show off his skills!”
Director Jin was completely unrestrained. While others enjoyed meat, he was satisfied just to have a little soup.
He then held onto Lin Mo, thinking that coming early was better than coming on time, and said with a smile, “Let’s have dinner together tonight and leave tomorrow. After all, Major Huang is the host, and a rich man is treating us; since we’re here, we shouldn’t miss this opportunity. Right, Old Huang?”
As the landlord, Major Huang had no reason to share the spoils with the national security personnel, but the gesture of sharing benefits made Director Jin smile as well.
Even though Major Huang was treating everyone, Director Jin did not forget his responsibilities. No matter where they were eating, the security in the military camp’s canteen was the best. Maisha definitely had to stick with them; there was no way they would leave her vulnerable just for a meal.
“Exactly! The more people, the merrier! With your people and the Dragon Knight, let’s open a few good bottles of wine and enjoy ourselves. Don’t worry; I have some wine cleverly hidden, so don’t sell me out!”
Major Huang nodded with a big smile. The cooking team in the military camp was genuinely skilled, and as long as they bought good ingredients and prepared everything nicely, it wouldn’t be any lower quality than a five-star restaurant.
“I still need to report back to the base, and I can’t drink!”
Lin Mo shook his head, turning down Major Huang’s kind offer.
“No way! This is my territory; I make the rules. Do me a favor, let’s have dinner together tonight! Stay overnight, and you’ll head back smoothly tomorrow. You’re flying your own plane, so what could be faster? In half a day, you can reach anywhere. If that worries you, fine. Who’s your leader? I’ll have our boss call him. I, Old Huang, have some pull. If you still refuse, hey, soldiers! Hold the plane back, and let this guy measure the Earth with his feet.”
It was surprising to see that Major Huang was both humorous and decisive. His cheerful demeanor made Lin Mo feel like he had no choice but to comply. However, he wasn’t going to let the military district commander call the Night Special Forces through the Ministry of Defense. Lin Mo quickly got his temporary leave approval via the communication module of the gold giant dragon.
Dinner was set for two tables, with Lin Mo, the blonde little girl, and the members of the national security department led by Director Jin, along with some important figures from the base joining them and Major Huang.
The military canteen served generous portions, with larger containers, and the cooking team was keen to show off their skills.
The large round table was piled high, with the main dishes served in basin-sized portions that appealed to Lin Mo. While others were drinking and toasting each other, Maisha Wright watched anxiously as this non-drinker devoured the food. She felt a chill at the back of her neck, worried he might finish the last dish on the table before turning to her.
After the meal, the cooking team was frustrated; one table had hardly touched any food, while the other was almost cleared. The guests’ differing tastes were truly puzzling.
The next morning, Lin Mo prepared to fly back in the P-51 Mustang propeller fighter but ran into some minor trouble.
The training ground was not long enough for a successful takeoff. For a pilot experienced in launching from an aircraft carrier, there were still ways to manage, and Lin Mo just needed a little help.
Once the propeller engine started, it should have begun taxiing forward, but each of the three landing gear tires was stuck with a triangular wooden block.
As the roar of jets grew louder and the airflow intensified, as the fighter accumulated enough energy, Lin Mo gestured out the window.
The three soldiers yanked on their ropes, removing the triangular blocks tied to the ends.
The Mustang burst forward with a force that was even faster than a normal takeoff, like an arrow released from a bow.
This little trick saved the Mustang nearly a hundred meters in distance, and the moment the double landing gears beneath the wings rushed off the concrete, the nose of the aircraft lifted, and the rear landing gear followed.
The angle of the flaps nearly hit the limit, and the belly of the aircraft grazed the base’s wall as it gained altitude, completing the takeoff procedure.
With such impressive skill, every soldier witnessing this scene cheered.
A hundred-meter-long concrete training ground was not an aircraft carrier; there were no inclined runways and no reverse thrust boards. Being able to take off in such a short distance demonstrated the pilot’s high skills. If he felt even the slightest insecurity, he could end up overshooting and slowing down on the grass, crashing into the base’s wall.
Though the P-51 Mustang was old in model, its flying ability and handling performance were excellent, and its endurance was not weak either. As a means of long-distance travel in non-mission settings, it was both economical and convenient.
After two hours of flying, Lin Mo successfully returned to the base of the Night Special Forces.
“Mission accomplished? Did that girl eat?”
Captain Feng placed great importance on the captive they captured in Turkey. The small tests conducted by the national security department also yielded results and were reported to him.
With her talent and intelligence, Maisha Wright had become a hot figure for governments worldwide; no one would let go of a potential top computer genius who could rival Kevin Mitnick.
“She stopped her hunger strike after I returned her laptop.”
Lin Mo reported truthfully but did not mention the laptop he had given to Maisha. That card shouldn’t be played too early.
“That’s good. While we can’t analyze her laptop to obtain important information, as long as she’s here, there are many ways to make her useful.”
Captain Feng suddenly smiled at Lin Mo and said, “It seems you’ve had great luck. Every time you go on a mission, there’s always an unexpected big reward. If you weren’t a pilot, I’d really want to keep you stationed abroad. Well, you did a great job this time; I’m letting you know in advance that the superiors have nominated you for a special merit and a first-class merit for the missions in Syria and the meteor interception. You should receive it soon.”
