Enkidu
Chapter 8
It was spring, and the flowers in the garden were in full bloom.
Layers of hyacinths swayed with the breeze, spitting out their stamens subtly and beautifully. They reflected the afterglow of the sun, as if the earth was draped with a layer of colorful gauze.
Enkidu tilted his head, as if his mood was lifted by the warm scenery. Compared to the crowded crowd, he preferred these dead things that did not show any emotions to others.
The banquet lasted for the whole afternoon. When they came out, it was already dark, but this did not affect the two. They walked slowly by the edge of the garden, chatting.
This was one of the few opportunities for King Arthur to relax, and he wanted to thank the kings for giving him the cold shoulder.
He had just started to rule the country, and often felt complacent because of his achievements. But in the eyes of others, it was still not enough. People despised him because of his birth. Even if they knew that he was the blood of Uther Of Silla, they still looked down on him as an illegitimate child. Just as Enkidu said, when the country became stronger, there would be more benefits to be gained, and they would value him more.
But Arthur wanted to make Great Britain strong, but he was not valued by the kings. His chest was surging with the flames of ambition, and as for what that ambition was, even he himself did not know.
The air outside was indeed much fresher and more comfortable than indoors. There was less of the taunting and noisy atmosphere at the ball. The two did not like noisy environments, and the silence around them was more suitable for them to get along.
"Why don't you go dance with those ladies?"
Contacting the ladies was also a diplomatic means. Arthur's rejection and even rude departure surprised Enkidu.
"Once I agree, their husbands might mistake it as a provocation."
In the Middle Ages, the concept of sexuality was very open. Because there were many countries, sometimes a small town with a few thousand people could be called a country. The queens had many opportunities to go out and communicate, and naturally had the opportunity to find a lover to have an affair.
Inviting Arthur to dance was also inviting Arthur to be their lover. If the queen's lover was of a higher status than herself, the king would turn a blind eye. Arthur was not in the category of being spared, so it was better not to do something that would lead to misunderstandings.
"If I want to invite someone to dance, the first choice is naturally you, Enkidu."
King Arthur's voice had a gentle smile, but his tone was firm.
Even though Enkidu had been taught a lot of common knowledge about this era, his understanding of social dancing was still shallow. During the Uruk era, as long as people had someone they admired, they could invite them to dance together on the day of the sacrificial ceremony, regardless of whether they were male or female.
At first, he thought that ballroom dancing was an activity activity for both men and women. when he was invited by the king of the same sex, and when he heard Gozhu's words, he was only vaguely aware of his importance to him. Gozhu...
"I'm very happy to receive your invitation."
Without hesitation, Enkidu
"Then it's a promise, the next imperial feast, no, the next imperial feast that belongs to Great Britain, you must dance with me."
The calm king blinked angrily. This was an expression that had not appeared on his face for a long time. It was as if he had returned to the time before he inherited the throne. Although he was as busy as he was now, that was the time when Arthur was the most relaxed.
They strolled along the path. Because there was a ball going on, they could not even see the Knights on guard. They were all protecting the king. After all, many kings were not as skilled in martial arts as Arthur, who boasted that they did not need others to protect them.
"Madam, please don't be too rude."
In this quiet environment, any sound was particularly prominent. A low male voice suddenly sounded in the night. Arthur and Enkidu could not help but look at each other.
It was not early now.
There was only the cold light of the bright moon in the sky. It scattered on the ground like frost and snow. Even Arthur's golden hair was dyed a translucent silver blue.
In the illusory rose bushes under the moonlight, a man stood among the flowers. His back was facing a woman who was sadly clutching her chest. It was clear that they were not husband and wife, but a man and woman who were having a rendezvous.
If someone carefully looked at the man's appearance, they would not even be able to say a word of reproach.
The man's eyes were as clear as a lake, but also as hazy as the mist in the morning. His handsomeness surpassed that of mortals. His posture was tall and straight, and his aura was steady, like a sword that had not yet been sharpened. If he stood in a crowd, he would be praised by everyone as a handsome man.
"Since you listened to me and came here, why can't you accept my love?"
"You are weak. The Knights will never refuse a weak request."
After the man said this, he prepared to leave. The madam panicked and pulled on his sleeve, calling his name.
"Lancelot."
The Knights stopped his movements, slightly stiff, but still gracefully supported her tottering body.
"I can meet your other requirements, but feelings can't be forced."
His tone changed from cold and hard to a little soft, "What's more, I am a wandering Knights. Soon I will travel to other places. I am afraid we will not meet again."
"Sorry, I made you feel troubled."
After seeing Lancelot's true feelings, even if she was sad, the woman chose to let go.
"Thank you for your generosity."
"No, I should thank you for saving me." Her words were still shy, but she let go of the hand that grabbed Knights' arm.
Lancelot watched the Queen of this country leave. Some time ago, the Queen was held hostage by bandits when she went out for an outing. It was he who saved the Queen who was almost taken away.
But he didn't seek fame and fortune. He just followed the rules of the Knights. He wanted to protect a defenseless weakling. If it was anyone else, he would have done the same.
Just now, he clearly felt someone's breath, but that person didn't stay for long and quickly left. Enkidu didn't belong to the category of people, so he didn't perceive it.
Lancelot wasn't afraid that his and the Queen's secret meeting would be discovered. He had a clear conscience. And he felt that the person who left wasn't a villain who liked to spread rumors everywhere, otherwise, he would have stayed a little longer.
As a low-status Knights, he came here to see a person.
The person he would assist in the future was called the Red Dragon of Great Britain, King Arthur.
Lancelot had the right to refuse. He wanted to see what the new King looked like. The rumors were too shallow to be used as evidence.
If King Arthur was a great and bright King, he would naturally be willing to obey him and be his sharpest sword.
On the contrary, King Arthur was a hypocritical, arrogant, and useless King. If he failed to live up to his adoptive mother's expectations, he would leave and continue to be a wandering Knight.
Lancelot opened the scroll that his adoptive mother left him with the drawing of King Arthur.
Unfortunately, although his mother was excellent in magic and even swordsmanship, she was terrible at drawing. She also stubbornly refused to use magic to copy King Arthur's appearance.
Lancelot could only distinguish that King Arthur had blond hair from a bunch of twisted lines. As for the general distribution of his facial features, he couldn't tell which were the eyes and which were the mouth.
If he couldn't find King Arthur this time, he would have to step into Great Britain to participate in the army recruitment. Getting close to King Arthur wasn't that convenient.
Lancelot still didn't know that he had missed King Arthur. In order not to disturb his time with the Queen, the two of them went another way.
"The sword in his hand is a very powerful weapon."
When they were far away, Enkidu suddenly spoke.
"Is it?
Compared to my Sword in the Stone? "
Arthur's interest was piqued as he asked eagerly.
Enkidu thought for a moment and shook his head.
"I can't compare, but their strength should be about the same."
The strength of the sword itself should be about the same, but the other sword had elven runes engraved on it. If they really competed, maybe the Knights' sword would be more powerful.
"I really want to compete with him. Looking at his appearance, he should be a very powerful Knights."
Arthur often participated in the army's martial arts competitions after he was recruited. After he was fifteen years old, his strength grew more and more terrifying. As a result, no one in the army was willing to practice swordsmanship with him. Even if he took a step back and competed with his marksmanship, no one would agree.
Even if he was praised for having the bravery of a dragon, King Arthur, who longed for opponents, was not happy.
He did fight with Enkidu once, but the result was too tragic … Friends were easy to talk to, as long as they went all out in a battle. According to him, it was disrespectful to not show his strength to his friends. Arthur was lying in bed for a few days, thinking about why he suddenly challenged Enkidu on a whim.
"Maybe there will be fate in the future for you to meet."
Enkidu sensed that the person had the aura of the Lake Fairy. Coupled with the elven runes, it was almost clear at a glance. Enkidu casually guessing things that were not confirmed would only disappoint Arthur, so he didn't say anything.
"I hope to recruit him to Great Britain. It would be great if we can cultivate talents like him."
Great Britain was lacking talents. He already had a prototype of the idea of developing elites. The specific situation had not been decided, but everyone in the Order of Chivalry must be equal and have the spirit of Knights.
Arthur did not misunderstand Lancelot's date with a married woman. However, the Knights he admired must have a noble character. He could not trust a Knight who bullied the weak, no matter how strong his martial arts were. If he really wanted to recruit that Knight, he needed to test his character.
