Just a Lover
Chapter 12
By the time Vanessa boarded the Hogwarts Express, it was already very late. Most of the passengers had already found their own carriages. She had chosen an empty compartment in a secluded area where no one would disturb her, so she was very surprised when Cyrius Black opened the door and walked in.
She should have cast an Oblivion Curse on him.
She slowly sat up straight and looked at the young man who walked in. He would be in the fourth grade when school reopened. His handsome features had lost their youthfulness and were now full of mature charm.
He sat down lazily in the seat opposite her, holding a bag of Bibi Flavored Beans in his hand. He popped one into his mouth and frowned.
"What's that taste?" Vanessa asked curiously.
Cyrius was silent for a while with a sour expression. He said, "Detergent, I think."
Vanessa laughed, and the tense atmosphere suddenly relaxed. Cyrius let out a sigh of relief and joked, "Are you hiding from me?"
Vanessa was stunned. "No, why do you say that?"
"I rarely saw you after Valentine's Day, and all the letters that Owl sent you were all returned."
He spoke very quickly and did not even catch his breath. When he finished, he stared at her a little angrily. "If that's not hiding from me, then what is it?"
Vanessa choked. After a while, she said, "Not only did I reject your letters, I … I didn't accept anyone's letters."
"Why?"
He sat opposite her with both hands in his pockets. The boy was not wearing a school uniform, only a black jacket with a white shirt, tie, and knitted sweater inside. His black hair fell to the side of his ears, and his gray eyes stared intently at her. His pupils were so clear that she could see all his emotions clearly.
This was probably why she always felt relaxed when she was with Cyrius Black.
"I have to prepare for my exams."
Vanessa said seriously. "I'm close to graduation, and a lot of strangers write to me. I don't have the time to reply to them, so I just reject them all."
… What an impeccable reason. Cyrius, of course, knew what those people were trying to do by writing to her. He had intended to denounce her, but now that she had said that, he could not continue. Okay, then he would change the subject.
"What are you going to do after you graduate?" He leaned against the wall, bored, with no intention of leaving.
Vanessa looked out of the car window. There was still a long way to go, so it wasn't impossible for them to chat. She didn't hate Cyrius Black. On the contrary, even though they didn't get to know each other very well, they still got along very well.
"I've applied for a position as a therapist in Saint-Mango," she said truthfully. "I'll probably get the results in a while."
Cyrius nodded. "Not bad.
After I graduate, I plan to become an Auror, or join the Phoenix Society. So … "He raised his eyebrows slightly and said lazily," If I get injured in the future, can I ask you for help? "
Vanessa was amused by him again. A relaxed smile hung on her beautiful and gentle face. She said softly, "Trust me, you don't need to ask me for help. When the time comes, there will be a lot of beautiful girls waiting in line to treat you."
She was absolutely right. Cyrius's appearance and status in Hogwarts could be said to be unrivaled. Even though he was the infamous rebellious son of the Black House, the girls were still infatuated with his handsome face and unusual way of doing things.
Vanessa had seen it before. Even the pure-blooded noble ladies in Slytherin secretly sent him chocolates on Valentine's Day, even though they disdained Cyrius for going to Gryffindor and hanging out with mixed blood wizards.
"I don't want them to treat me," Cyrius muttered.
Vanessa did not hear Cyrius clearly. She was about to ask when he changed the topic. He coughed softly and said, "Then — Albert, we are friends now, right?"
Although his tone was ambiguous, he emphasized the words at the end. He put on a fierce and irrefutable look.
Vanessa smiled gently and said, "If you don't mind my background and school, then, of course, we are friends."
Llothon. Before Cyrius could speak, Vanessa added, "But you should change the way you address me, Black. After my parents divorced, I took my mother's surname. You can call me Wilson."
She reached out her hand to him. He looked down at her slender, white, and seemingly soft hands and said unhappily, "Can't I call you Vanessa?"
Vanessa was stunned. She immediately said, "Of course you can, if that's what you want."
Siris slowly raised his hand and held hers. Sure enough, her hand was as soft as he had imagined. Holding her like this, the terrible feeling in his heart that he would not be able to see her at Hogwarts for the next four years because she was about to graduate was greatly alleviated.
He slowly raised his eyes to look at her face. He looked at her smiling face across the table. This face had won her seven consecutive Hogwarts Most Beautiful Girl votes during her school years. Of course, it was not an undeserved title.
When she looked at you with a gentle smile, it was hard not to be moved by the smile in her eyes and her extraordinary temperament.
Vanessa suddenly felt her hand tighten. She was pulled across the table by Cyrius. She fell into the arms of a boy who was almost four years younger than her.
Even though he was younger than her, his embrace was not weak at all. It was hard with a hint of softness. It was filled with the unique fresh air of a teenager.
Vanessa was stunned. She raised her head to look into his eyes. Cyrius's eyelashes fluttered. He stared at her and said, "You can also call me Cyrius."
Vanessa had no idea how things had developed to this point. Before she could say anything, she felt her vision darken. The boy holding her lowered his head and kissed her lips.
Unlike the unexpected prank kiss last Halloween, he kissed her seriously this time. He gently bit her lips and kissed her awkwardly. Vanessa came back to her senses and quickly moved back to her seat.
Because she was in a hurry, her stomach brushed against the table. It hurt a little.
Pain was a good thing. It could wake people up.
Vanessa sat in her seat, her eyes fixed on the boy who had just kissed her. She ran her fingers over her lips and said in a low voice, "Cyrius, you …"
She naturally said that she wanted to distance herself from him or reject him. Cyrius did not intend for her to accept him so quickly. He did not give her a chance to speak and interrupted her. "I'll write to you during the summer break." Llothon asked her, "Where do you live?
Write me an address. If I have time, maybe I'll visit you. "
His patronizing tone made him seem like he was back to being the arrogant Black. It also made Vanessa feel a little more at ease.
"… I'm afraid I can't give you an address for now." Vanessa was silent for a while before saying, "I'll probably move soon.
I'll give you the address when I've moved to a permanent place. "
She was not saying it as an excuse. She really planned to move, so she did not feel guilty.
Cyrius saw her sincerity and did not mind. He nodded and stood up. "Then I'll go back to James and the others."
He walked to the door and tilted his head, as if waiting for her to say goodbye.
Vanessa met his eyes for a moment before she understood what he meant. She immediately said, "Oh, of course. Go back quickly. Don't let them wait too long."
Cyrius frowned, dissatisfied with her slow reaction. He snorted in disdain and left in a huff.
It did not matter. He had plenty of time to make trouble for her in the future. Even if she graduated, she would not be able to run away. At worst … he would find a way to get into Saint-mango. Was it difficult to get into a hospital?
It was fine as long as she got hurt.
Vanessa did not know what Cyrius was thinking. She stared at the door for a long time in silence before she slowly withdrew her gaze and pulled her thoughts back from the scene just now.
The most important thing now was to think about moving.
She thought that she would be stopped by Lucius when she said this, but when she returned to their temporary residence in Wiltshire and told him her idea, she was surprised to see him nod.
"In this situation, your current place is indeed a bit eye-catching. I've already arranged a new place for you and Mrs. Wilson. I think …"
Before he could finish, he was interrupted by Vanessa.
"Mr. Malfoy, I've already found a place to live."
She was very happy that he agreed. She did not feel so indebted to him if she did not live in his house. She felt much more relaxed. "If you agree, I should move out in the afternoon."
Lucius also saw her packing her things through the double-sided mirror. He found that she only packed her own luggage and did not pack her mother's.
Sure enough, Vanessa quickly said, "There's something I may have to trouble you with.
My mother … she probably doesn't want to move with me. I think … if I move out, can she continue to live with you for the time being?
I'll persuade her to agree to leave as soon as possible. "
Of course, Lucius did not mind such trivial matters. He had more land than he could count, so why would he mind a small house?
But after thinking for a moment, he still frowned and said, "Whether she is willing or not, that house is not suitable for her to live in anymore.
I'll arrange another place for her to live. It's safer that way. "
He was now the most powerful follower of that lord, and there were many eyes on him. It was definitely not good for her mother to live in this house with her sensitive identity. Vanessa did not object to Lucius's arrangement. She nodded slightly and said, "It would be best if you can persuade her."
Lucius thought of something and smiled sarcastically. After a while, he said, "It's easy to go from poverty to wealth, but difficult to go from wealth to poverty.
If it's moving from a good place to a better place, no one will refuse. "
Vanessa immediately understood the meaning of his words, but she could not refute it.
She had been young and had not thought about what kind of person Lockhee was. As for now … she did not want to think about it.
While she was thinking, Lucius's reserved and noble voice sounded from the double-sided mirror again. He said to her, "I'll be there soon."
Vanessa looked at him in confusion. "You're coming?
Why? "She was about to finish packing and would leave soon. What was he doing here now?
Lucius did not answer and directly cut off the connection. In a few seconds, Lockhee's excited voice sounded from downstairs.
"Ah … Mr. Malfoy, it's you.
You're here. "
Vanessa opened the door and walked out. She stood on the second floor and looked down, listening to her mother's flattering words. "Why did you come without saying hello? I didn't prepare anything to entertain you."
Lucius pulled away from Lockhee, who was too close to him, with his cane. He frowned slightly and said in a drawn-out tone that sounded very fake, but could not be found wrong. "Don't bother, madam.
I'm here to find Vanessa and help her move. "
Lockhee was stunned. She paused for a moment and immediately said, "Move?
No, no!
We don't want to move, Mr. Malfoy. You must have misunderstood something. "
Vanessa stood on the second floor and looked at her mother's terrified and desperate look. She smiled and turned back to her room.
"You misunderstood, madam."
Lucius was indeed a noble. He could still maintain his gentlemanly and elegant appearance in front of a woman like Lockhee. He said with a fake smile, "Vanessa wants to move to the house she found. As for you — I've arranged a better place for you. As Vanessa's mother, I won't treat you badly."
Lockhee slowly calmed down and felt embarrassed for losing her composure. She nodded and agreed. When she looked at Lucius again, he had already teleported to Vanessa's room on the second floor.
"Is it all packed?" He glanced at the big and small boxes on the floor and asked casually.
Vanessa nodded. She cast a shrinking spell on the boxes and put them away one by one.
Lucius opened the wardrobe door with his cane. She did not take any of the clothes he had prepared for her.
It didn't matter.
There would be plenty of opportunities for her in the future. There was no need to be unhappy at this time.
"I'll go with you."
Holding Vanessa's hand, he said calmly, "Shall."
"Shall we?" He looked at her politely and elegantly.
The biggest advantage of graduation was that one could use magic outside of school.
Vanessa and Lucius held hands and teleported to the house she had found for Christmas.
After standing firm, she immediately let go of his hand. It was as if she would not have held his hand if it were not for the Phantom Transference.
Lucius was in a good mood today. Now that she had graduated, there would be plenty of time to teach her. He was not in a hurry, so he did not argue with her.
He frowned and looked around with some disgust. They were standing in a remote place to avoid the attention of the Muggles. Vanessa led the way. After a short walk, they stopped in front of a two-story house.
This house … was really too small.
It was not even a fraction of the size of the living room in Malfoy Manor.
When Lucius walked in, he even felt that he could not turn around.
Vanessa put down the luggage and turned around. She saw Lucius wearing his expensive wizard robe and holding the family head's cane. He was frowning and walking slowly in the small space on the first floor. His expression as if he had been greatly wronged pleased her. She could not help but laugh, which attracted Lucius's reproachful gaze.
"Damn it. This place is too small. If you had told me in advance, I would never have …"
He expressed his opinion with dissatisfaction, but Vanessa interrupted him in time. "I knew you wouldn't agree, so I didn't tell you in advance.
Actually, this place is not small. There are many rooms. It's enough for me to live alone. "
Lucius's gray-blue eyes glanced at her. After standing there for a long time, he calmed down a little and said with a sigh of relief, "Why are you alone?"
Vanessa was stunned. "But my mother would not want to live here."
Lucius frowned and stared at her with cold eyes. "I will live here."
Vanessa thought she had misheard him. She dug her ears hard and asked him, "What did you say?"
Lucius simply took out his magic wand and said to her in a loud voice, "I will live here.
Do you hear me now? "
Vanessa looked at him in disbelief. "Are you crazy?
You don't want to live in Malfoy Manor? You want to live here? "
She gestured exaggeratedly. "This place is not even a tenth of the size of the living room in Malfoy Manor!"
"I'm glad you can realize this."
Lucius's pale face was filled with subtle unhappiness. He said to her, "Ever since I was born, I have never lived in such … such …" He suppressed and restrained himself and used the most elegant description. "Such a simple house."
He slowly exhaled and tried to be calm. "But I will try. At least this is where you want to live, so I will try to get used to a place like this."
…
Vanessa had wanted to refuse him.
After they had met today, they had tacitly not mentioned the deal. They had maintained a peaceful relationship on the surface, as if it had never happened.
But at this moment, all their arrangements and actions were almost the same as the "deal" they had wanted to make in the beginning.
She wanted to reject him sternly and ask him to leave. She also thought about not telling him where her new place was, but later she felt that she could not hide it forever. Her mother was still involved with him, and Vanessa could not ignore Lockhee, so she still brought him here.
But …
When Lucius said that even if he felt that such a place wasn't worthy of his status, he would try his best to get used to it for her sake, the words of rejection were stuck in her throat, and she couldn't say it out loud.
Vanessa fell silent and continued to unpack her luggage. She opened one of her luggage and saw an exquisite gift box lying quietly inside.
It was the birthday present Lucius had given her before. She had not opened it at all and had kept it in the drawer.
She wanted to find a chance to return it to him, but at this moment, she unwrapped the ribbon of the package. The thing inside was different from what she had imagined. It was very ordinary and did not even cost much gold coins. It was also a little unsuitable for his status.
It was a Muggle thing.
It was a Muggle lipstick.
Vanessa took out the lipstick unexpectedly and looked behind her. Lucius had walked into the room at the entrance of the first floor. Although he despised this place and did not like it at all, he was still helping her clean up with his magic wand.
She had never imagined that one day she would be lucky enough to see Lucius Malfoy clean up her room with his noble hands and powerful magic wand.
With complicated and contradictory feelings, Vanessa looked at the Muggle lipstick in her hand again and slowly walked to the dressing mirror on the first floor.
The Muggle mirror would not chatter about its owner's dressing. She quietly applied the lipstick on her lips in front of the mirror. It was the color of maple leaves, matte and velvet. It looked especially beautiful on her lustrous lips.
It was a color that suited her very well.
When she heard footsteps behind her, Vanessa turned her head and looked at Mr. Malfoy who had walked out of the room. She smiled and said, "Does it look good?"
Lucius stared at her in a daze. He recognized at a glance that the color on her lips was the one he had seen in the window when he went to do business with the Muggles.
The woman in the Muggle magazine had worn this lipstick, delicate and beautiful. At that time, Lucius had thought that if it was on Vanessa's lips, it would look especially good, a million times better than the woman in the Muggle magazine.
A gift was valuable in the thought, not in the value.
He had given Narcissa a necklace that was worth thousands of dollars, but that was only arranged by his subordinates. He had not wasted any effort on it at all.
But Vanessa's was different.
He had personally chosen it and bought it himself.
For this reason, he had endured the overly exaggerated praise and flattery of the Muggle store's service staff. In their words, he was like Merlin reincarnated. He still could not forget those gazes that were glued to his body.
Lucius himself did not know that while he was thinking about this, he had involuntarily walked in front of her.
Because she had dodged, she was forced to lean against the wall behind her.
There was a cupboard placed against the wall. It was neither tall nor short. When Lucius lifted Vanessa, she sat on the cupboard with her back against the wall.
"You …" She wanted to say something, but she was soon speechless.
Lucius's always cold lips fell on hers and rubbed them intimately.
Vanessa's breath sprayed into his nose, carrying a faint fragrance that belonged to her.
Lucius frowned slightly and opened his eyes to look at the girl who was also looking at him with her eyes open.
Possessiveness was a strange thing.
Sometimes, he couldn't even stand other people talking to her.
He couldn't imagine what he would do if she really rejected him one day, if she fell in love with someone else and married someone else.
He might not be much more rational than that lord was now.
"Can I stay?"
After their lips touched, the tip of his nose touched hers and he whispered, "We'll leave after dinner."
Vanessa turned her head. She was almost suffocated by his intimate contact. She thought that if he left after dinner, then … there was nothing wrong with that.
So she nodded her head.
She got down from the cabinet and pulled away from him. She walked into the kitchen, waved her wand, and asked him, "What do you want to eat?"
Lucius looked out of the window and said, "Whatever you cook is fine."
Vanessa pursed her lips and did not say anything. Lucius turned and walked out of the house. She stood in the house and could see him standing at the door, waving his wand to avoid the passing Muggles. He softly chanted protection spells, confusion spells, Muggle banishing spells, and many other ancient and lengthy spells that she could not name.
He was setting up protection for her, but she did not intend to cut off contact with the nearby Muggles. But …
Seeing his serious and serious look as he worked hard to set up protection for this place like the head of the house, she could not refuse.
Forget it.
He would leave soon anyway, and she could change it then.
For now, he could do whatever he wanted.
However …
Vanessa did not expect this.
The famous head of the Malfoy family, one of the most outstanding graduates of Hogwarts, the honorary minister of the Ministry of Magic, a member of the board of directors of Hogwarts, the former principal of Slytherin, and the president of the student council, Lucius Malfoy, actually went back on his words.
"You …" Vanessa looked angrily at the man who was sitting on the bed in her bedroom. He had taken off his robe and was only wearing a shirt, and was gently loosening his collar. She said speechlessly, "Mr. Malfoy, didn't you say you would leave after dinner?"
