The Detective and The Strange Thief

Chapter 1

"I refuse."

Taizai rubbed his right wrist as he walked out of the interrogation room. He took the coat from Atsushi Nakajima, who was waiting anxiously outside. Without looking at Dubu Kunikida behind him, he said, "Dunjun, let's go."

"Yes, Mr. Taejae."

Atsushi Nakajima looked worriedly at Dubu Kunikida, who was holding a laptop, and followed Taizai's footsteps.

"Taizai, please reconsider."

Kokida walked in front of them and stopped Taizai, who looked sleepy. "According to Mr. Mori, if you agree, you'll get the highest authority in the group, and the pay will be considerable."

"I refuse."

Taizai replied lazily, "My work has been piling up like a mountain recently. Although I want to help you, I'm really too busy."

"Besides, you can ask Mr. Chaotic Steps. If Mr. Chaotic Steps is involved, all problems will be solved." Taizai stretched. "Do I look like I'm short of money?"

"Unfortunately, Mr. Chaotic Steps has been invited to the United States to participate in some Detective Association event."

Kokida pushed her glasses, her tone saying, "If it weren't for the fact that we have no other choice, we wouldn't have asked a troublemaker like you to cause trouble."

"Is that so? Sorry for the inconvenience." Taizai finished quickly and was about to leave.

"Mr. Taejae!"

This shout was so aggressive that it stunned Kokida and Taizai in the corridor. Following this shout, Atsushi Nakajima, who had been standing in the background, suddenly stood beside Kokida in high spirits.

"Mr. Taejae, do you still remember how long it has been since the last time the firm had a commission?"

Atsushi Nakajima clenched his fists. Although he was much shorter than Taizai, his imposing manner made Taizai involuntarily take half a step back.

"Mr. Taejae, do you still remember the day before yesterday, the owner of the cafe downstairs said that he wouldn't let you buy on credit anymore?"

"Mr. Taejae, do you still remember that you have to pay the rent for the next quarter next month?"

"Mr. Taejae, do you still remember that our air conditioner is beyond repair and needs to be replaced as soon as possible?"

"Also, Mr. Taejae owes me three months of salary!"

Best of the Match: Atsushi Nakajima, pentakill!

"Tsunami-kun …" The Prime Minister looked at Nakajima Atsushi, whose eyes were burning with a dollar sign. In the end, he was still half a head shorter. He could only rub his head and say, "I know …"

Atsushi Nakajima turned his head and looked at Kokida, who was stunned. "Our firm will accept this commission."

"Oh, okay …" Kokida mechanically picked up the notebook in his hand and flipped through a few pages. He then took out a pen from his pocket and started writing rapidly.

"At the very least, I'm the president …" Tai Zai grumbled softly.

"Excuse me," Atsushi Nakajima ignored him. "How much will we get for this commission, and if possible, can we pay a portion of it in advance?"

Kokida looked at the two people from the detective agency with concern. "Uh … Although there's no precedent for this," he looked at Atsushi Nakajima's burning eyes again. "But I can discuss it with the higher-ups."

"Thank you!" Atsushi Nakajima bowed 90 degrees to Kokida.

Taizai thought that if they were not in the corridor of the Metropolitan Police Department, Atsushi Nakajima would have fallen to the ground.

"You're welcome." Kokida closed the notebook. "Please follow me."

"This place really hasn't changed at all."

Compared to Atsushi Nakajima, who was following closely behind and looking left and right for fear of getting lost, Taizai crossed his hands behind his head and said leisurely, "Speaking of which, Kokida, you're already a police officer. You're young and promising."

"Don't give me that."

Kokida kept a straight face. "Taizai, if you hadn't resigned, you would be a police inspector now."

"Eh, police inspector?

Mr. Taejae? "

Atsushi Nakajima stared at Taizai, who was wearing a faded beige trench coat, a wrinkled white shirt, and circles of bandages on his body. Then, he looked at Kokida in his neat uniform. He could not associate Taizai with the image of an elite police officer.

He wanted to ask something, but Kokida was already standing outside a small room. He turned the door handle and said, "Please come in."

Seeing them come in, the four people in the room all looked at them. Atsushi Nakajima was intimidated by the atmosphere in the room and took half a step back. Taizai, who was beside him, put his hand on his shoulder. "What are you talking about? We all know each other."

"This is the Special Countermeasures Department arranged by Mr. Mori." Kokida waited for them to come in and closed the door. "Let me introduce you again."

"Police Inspector, Ryunosuke Akutagawa."

The man sitting on the chair by the door stood up and bowed slightly to Taizai. Atsushi Nakajima felt a cold gaze drift past him and freeze on Taizai's shoulder. He could not help but shiver.

"Long time no see, Kakutagawa-kun." The Prime Minister's tone was still light as a feather. "I'm surprised that you've been promoted to the position of Police Commissioner."

"Thank you for your guidance, Mr. Taejae," the man called Akutagawa coughed and responded in a slightly cold tone.

Atsushi Nakajima vaguely noticed that Akutagawa's ears moved slightly.

It seems that he's really an awkward person … He thought it was funny.

"Forensic Doctor, and Akiko Yosano."

The beautiful woman with neat short hair waved at them. Before Atsushi Nakajima could salute, Taizai had already rushed to her side and gently held her hand.

"As a forensic doctor, you must be familiar with death and have a deep understanding of it."

Taizai stared at her without blinking. "Then, what do you think about committing suicide for love?"

Here we go again … Atsushi Nakajima really wanted to find a place to hide.

"Are you asking me this question?"

Akiko Yosano's voice sounded faintly. "As a doctor, no matter what, I want to save lives."

The beautiful woman who had been standing there quietly seemed to have changed into a different person. There seemed to be a cloud of black fog rising around her.

Taizai met her gaze and couldn't help but take a few steps back. He smiled awkwardly and returned to Kokida's side. Kokida had an expression that said, "Who is this person? I don't know him."

"Forensics Department, Police Inspector Tanizaki Junichiro."

"We meet again, Mr. Taejae."

The young man with light orange hair greeted Taizai. "I'm looking forward to working with you again."

"It's been a while," Taizai responded with a smile.

"As for that person," Kokida's voice deepened, and everyone in the room focused their attention on the young man who was leaning against the window with his back facing them.

The short young man's hair was also orange, but it was different from Tanizaki's light orange. His hair was darker, like a burning flame.

He slowly turned around, and Atsushi Nakajima took a deep breath.

The man had delicate facial features and a pair of eyes as clear and beautiful as a lake. He shone like an exquisite work of art. The moment he turned around, it was as if the entire room was lit up.

The room was filled with light.

"An investigator specially appointed by the Metropolitan Police Department, Inspector Nakahara Chūya."

"Hello."

The man known as Nakahara Chūya smiled and walked up to Taizai. He extended his black-gloved hand and squinted slightly. There was a flash of light in his eyes. "Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you."

An impeccable smile appeared on the Grand Chancellor's face as he reached out to shake Zhongye's hand. His gaze, however, carried a bit of playfulness and sizing up as it lightly swept over Zhongye's body.

Chūya raised his head slightly and met Taizai's gaze. When their eyes met, Kokida and Atsushi Nakajima, who were standing beside them, seemed to see sparks crackling in the air.

Neither of them moved. They just shook hands in silence.

Seeing that the two were in a deadlock for a long time, Kokida finally couldn't take it anymore. He coughed softly and ended their secret contest. He flipped open the notebook in his hand and pretended not to see Taizai rubbing his hands behind his back. "Including me, there are a total of five members from the Metropolitan Police Department who have joined the task force."

"The person in charge of this task force is Inspector Morio Wai. In this operation, Mr. Osamu Dazai will have the highest authority, which is equivalent to the Inspector. He can freely dispatch the relevant police departments and use the relevant information."

"The target of this task force investigation and arrest is the wanted criminal known as Strange Thief N. The action code is 1409."

"That's the basic information. Mr. Taejae, please give us your instructions."

"Hmm …" Taizai had already sat down at a table. The middle finger of his right hand tapped on the table unconsciously. "As far as I know, this Strange Thief N has always been a high-profile thief. If that's the case, at most, he'll be charged with a relatively large amount of theft. He has never been under the jurisdiction of the investigation department. Why are we suddenly setting up a task force here to investigate and arrest him?"

"If it's just theft, it's a bit of a fuss to set up a task force now."

Kokida replied, "However, yesterday, not only was Van Gogh's' Rose 'stolen from the National Museum of Western Art, but the museum's curator was also killed in his office."

"So that's what happened …" Taizai raised his voice slightly. Atsushi Nakajima looked at Kokida in disbelief. "Then it makes sense.

But this is really embarrassing for the police. A lot of things were lost before. Now, not only did they not keep the things, but they were also killed. "

Kokida's face immediately darkened, but he was more or less concerned about Taizai's current identity, so he held back his anger.

Atsushi Nakajima thought that if this was outside, Taizai would have been beaten up immediately.

"In short, please start the investigation and related work as soon as possible."

"Of course." Taizai patted Atsushi Nakajima's shoulder. "Let's go, Dunjun. Let's go to the scene.

Please lead the way, Kokida -kun. "

"Mr. Taejae, I'll go too …" Akutagawa, who had been silent, suddenly stood up.
