The Detective and The Strange Thief
Chapter 2
Taizai hurriedly flipped through a stack of documents and threw them to Atsushi Nakajima. The latter took them in a hurry.
Before he could say anything, Taizai had already said to Akutagawa, who was sitting in the driver's seat, "Get out of the car."
Although they had not yet arrived at the National Museum of Western Art, Akutagawa stopped the car without asking.
Atsushi Nakajima still wanted to say something, but the others in the car all got out of the car. Only he slowly got out of the car with a stack of documents. Akutagawa even glared at him with dissatisfaction.
"Let's walk over slowly," Taizai said. "Let's look around."
Naturally, no one had any objections.
The museum was located in Ueno Park, surrounded by ordinary garden scenery.
Guo Mutian didn't know what the Grand Chancellor wanted to see. He walked around in circles with great interest. When everyone looked a little impatient, Guo Mutian asked, "What's the matter?
"Taizai, what do you want to investigate?"
"Nothing …" Taizai said. "After sitting in the interrogation room for the whole morning, my legs are a little numb. I want to walk around."
As soon as he finished speaking, the pen in Kokida's hand broke into two pieces.
Although the Grand Chancellor was naughty, he still knew how to read the atmosphere. Seeing the situation, he immediately said,
When he saw the scene, he immediately said, "Let's go to the crime scene."
The three-story building in front of them looked a little plain. In the past, it was crowded with tourists, but since yesterday's case, it was completely closed to the public.
"It's been a long time since I saw this scene. It makes me miss it," Taizai sighed as he touched the yellow police tape.
He took the name tag from Kokida and pinned it on his coat. He looked at the group of police officers standing behind him and complained in a low voice,
"I'm not a famous detective from a movie or TV series."
When Atsushi Nakajima heard this, he couldn't help but chuckle. He felt that it didn't match the serious atmosphere around him, so he awkwardly hid his face behind the documents.
Seeing him like this, Akutagawa snorted and turned his head away.
"Now, there are two problems that need to be solved. One is how Thief N managed to sneak through the layers of security to steal 'Rose'. The other is who killed the curator in his office."
Taizai stood on the steps of the art gallery, looking up at the famous building. "But sometimes, I don't know how you guys arranged things. It's embarrassing that Strange Thief N stole Rose unscathed under such strong security, and you don't even know how he did it."
"Mr. Taejae …" Akutagawa seemed to want to refute, but Kokida reached out to stop him. He pursed his lower lip in dissatisfaction.
"Let me think …" Taizai pinched his chin. "According to a typical movie or TV series, the police must think that after Strange Thief N stole Rose, he met the unlucky curator on the escape route. In order to prevent being discovered, Strange Thief N killed the curator, right?"
Taizai looked at Kokida, who didn't speak but was already frowning. "However, as the protagonist, the great detective will definitely feel that something is wrong, and then reveal the truth — the murderer is someone else."
As he spoke, he made an exaggerated gesture commonly used by detectives and pointed at Kokida. Kokida coughed softly and ignored Taizai's funny gesture. This made Taizai show a disappointed expression and pull back his hand to scratch his hair.
"Mr. Kokida, please take us to the scene." Atsushi Nakajima fully played the role of an assistant and jumped out to smooth things over.
"Okay, Rose is in the exhibition hall on the first floor of the new museum. Please follow me."
"Isn't this painting still here?" The prime minister and Nakajima Atsushi were dumbfounded when they saw the painting behind the thick bulletproof glass.
Van Gogh's Rose was a small painting, only 33-centimeter x.
41.3 centimeters, it looked a little funny behind the glass.
Taizai walked over and knocked on the glass twice. "Kokida -san, even jokes should be moderated."
"No," Kokida said in a low voice. "This is only a replica behind the glass. The real one has been stolen."
"A replica?!" Atsushi Nakajima exclaimed and threw himself against the glass.
"Oh?" Taizai turned to look at him, waiting for Kokida's further explanation.
"The battle plan last night was like this," Kokida continued. "In the notice sent by Thief N, it was stated that they would come to steal Van Gogh's famous painting, Rose, at 20: 30. Therefore, the battle plan began at 18: 00 yesterday, and the entire art gallery was placed under martial law.
The real one was hidden in the warehouse, and the replica was placed here. There was an infrared detector behind the bulletproof glass, and four police officers were guarding it that night. "
"… That is to say, the one that was protected with so much effort is actually not the real one." Atsushi Nakajima looked at the group of police officers next to him in disbelief.
"Then how was the warehouse where the real one was located arranged?" Taizai sat on the sofa chair in front of the painting.
"The real one was hidden in the warehouse, and two of our police officers confirmed it at 20: 00 yesterday. After that, the warehouse door was locked …" Kokida paused for a moment. "However …"
"However, it was still stolen."
Taizai added, "So your battle plan was to use a smokescreen to properly protect the replica as the real one, and wait for Thief N to walk into the trap. However, the real one had already been put away."
"Hey, that sounds good," Atsushi Nakajima said. "But Thief N actually found out that it was a replica."
"Who made this battle plan?" Taizai looked back at the police officers.
"It was me." Akutagawa stepped forward. "What did Mr. Taejae think?"
"Do you want me to praise you for your improvement?"
Taizai shrugged and said in a light tone, "Akutagawa-kun, in my opinion, this plan is full of loopholes."
"Mr. Taejae …" Akutagawa lowered his head. Taizai's words made him feel quite embarrassed, and he himself did not believe this statement. "Please tell me more."
"The simplest point is that for this plan to succeed, it must be based on the fact that Strange Thief N doesn't have any operational intelligence about the police. Once Strange Thief N learns that the item placed here is a fake, it's equivalent to the police handing over 'Rose' without any surveillance."
"That's impossible …" Akutagawa subconsciously retorted. "Even within the police, there are less than ten people who know about this plan."
"Is that so? Then it seems that I have wronged you." Taizai's tone was gentle. "Then tell me, where is the painting 'Rose' now?"
"This …" Akutagawa was speechless.
"Although you are facing the legendary Thief N, who has been at the top of the wanted list for many years and has never failed, you have already tried your best to participate."
Taizai stood up and walked in front of Akutagawa. "Although you did not consider that Thief N would have a way to obtain relevant operational intelligence from the police, for Ryunosuke Akutagawa, who is not good at reasoning and criminal investigation, this mistake is pardonable. Or rather, this effort is more worthy of praise, is that so?"
Taizai's words echoed in the quiet hall. Akutagawa was completely speechless, and the people around them were stunned by Taizai's attitude. Even their breaths were subconsciously suppressed.
Compared to the others, Atsushi Nakajima looked at Taizai with the most surprised gaze.
In his eyes, although Taizai was a smart boss, he had always been frivolous in front of him.
Seeing his attitude towards Akutagawa today, Atsushi Nakajima found it even more difficult to imagine what Taizai was like when he was in the Metropolitan Police Department.
"Pfft."
A chuckle attracted everyone's attention. Taizai and Akutagawa turned their heads at the same time to look in the direction of the source of the sound.
"What advice does the Central Plains Police have for us?"
Taizai looked at Nakahara Chūya, who had been standing by the side and leaning against a pillar. The latter's face was full of undisguised joy and interest.
"I wouldn't dare to give advice. Of course, I agree with what Mr. Taejae said."
Chūya straightened up and walked over. "It's just that after understanding the battle plan, our thoughts coincide."
"Oh?"
Taizai took a few steps in the direction of Chūya and asked casually, "Wasn't the Central Plains Police at the scene last night?"
"I was only assigned here today."
Chūya met Taizai's gaze. "To be precise, after the headquarters heard that Rose was stolen, they directly transferred me to the Special Task Force with a call."
"I see …" Taizai narrowed his eyes. "Then I'll have to trouble the Central Plains Police to share your opinion."
"You flatter me."
Chūya smiled. "I'm not good at logical reasoning. It's better to let Mr. Taejae do it. After all, a detective is a professional."
Nakajima Atsushi couldn't help but shudder as the two of them chatted.
However, it was strange. The two should not have crossed paths before, but why were they suddenly at loggerheads with each other?
However, one was the person in charge of the operation with the highest authority outside Sen Ou, and the other was an operations officer specially appointed from the headquarters. Everyone present had no clue and could not get a word in edgewise.
"It's okay. Just say it."
Taizai ignored the unfriendly atmosphere between the two. "I think the Central Plains Police's opinion will be very valuable."
"You flatter me."
Chūya saw Taizai's gaze and knew that he could not avoid it. He could only say, "According to my speculation, Thief N probably obtained the information through some channels, so he did not fall into the trap and came to the exhibition hall. Instead, he went directly to the warehouse to steal the real thing.
When the police set up the scene, in order to not be discovered, they will inevitably deploy a large number of police officers at the replica. In order to not show any abnormalities in the warehouse where the real thing is located, they will not be able to see anything from the outside. According to my speculation, they should be maintaining the original appearance while increasing the surveillance. "
Taizai snapped his fingers. "Is that right, Akutagawa-kun?"
"That's right."
