The Last Cat in the Universe
Chapter 4
Marshal Ji was completely oblivious to the fact that the Yue An had already made a note of him.
He took the clean chip and walked to the front of the operating table.
This invisible chip was a point-to-point communication method. The chip in Ji Xiuyun's hand was connected to another Marshal of the Empire, Kevin.
This was a secret that no one else knew except for the chip's creator and the two people involved.
The people in power didn't want the entire military to be as close as a family. Thus, to outsiders, Kevin and Ji Xiuyun were just acquaintances. Occasionally, they would even oppose each other in important meetings.
In reality, the two Marshal's relationship was quite good.
Everyone knew that when Ji Xiuyun had been accumulating military merits, he had been a general under Marshal Kevin.
However, when Ji Xiuyun's military achievements were enough to be promoted to Marshal and he was just waiting for the documents to be passed down, Marshal Kevin mercilessly reprimanded Ji Xiuyun in front of hundreds of thousands of soldiers.
Regardless of whether the two people involved cared or not, other people who knew about this matter were definitely concerned.
When Ji Xiuyun had been reprimanded, the first person to send his condolences was the previous Emperor of the Empire.
Not many people knew that Ji Xiuyun and Kevin could be considered as teachers and students who didn't have any actual titles.
There was nothing to criticize when a teacher reprimanded a student. Ji Xiuyun didn't think that being reprimanded in front of hundreds of thousands of soldiers was shameful.
As a general, being reprimanded for making a wrong decision was already a very light punishment.
As a soldier, he had to face his mistakes head-on and sacrifice himself. This was especially true for generals.
The soldiers who had sacrificed themselves because of his wrong orders didn't even have the chance to see him being reprimanded.
Ji Xiuyun inserted the chip into the control panel's card slot. He wasn't surprised to see that the message area was empty.
He quickly completed a strict identity verification and entered a short string of coordinates. When it showed that the transmission was complete, he simply tore off the chip.
Mr. Marshal's mecha and spaceship had been blasted into space junk. Although the safety cabin was equipped with thrusters, the power was not enough to penetrate the planet's atmosphere. If they wanted to leave, they could only wait for rescue.
Ji Xiuyun didn't know what was going on outside, but he didn't need to use his brain to figure out that something big had happened.
The Iron-Blooded Silver Blade, known as the Sintes, had been ambushed and disappeared while on a routine patrol. This news was big enough to cause an uproar in the major Galactic Alliances, and it was also enough for the other countries and alliances that coveted the Empire of Sintes to have thoughts of taking advantage of them.
If nothing else, Kevin must have been under enough pressure to lose a bunch of hair.
Marshal Ji courteously expressed his condolences to the teacher who was about to go bald.
The Marshal knew that the arrival of reinforcements would not be slow, but due to various complicated reasons such as power, hidden arrows, and external enemies, they probably could not be too fast.
He still had to be prepared to stay on this planet for at least a few days.
Water and food were the most important things.
Marshal Ji Xiuyun carefully put away the invisible chip and turned to look at Yue An, who he suspected to be a native of this planet.
As soon as he turned around, he froze.
Yue An was currently holding a piece of ore the size of his head in its claws. It was gnawing on it bit by bit, not even letting go of the crumbs. It was licking them all into its stomach.
Energy crystals were currently known to contain the most energy and had the highest hardness.
Until now, there was no way to perfectly decompose it, nor was there a way to purify it. Using ores to collide with ores in an attempt to cut it would cause severe energy loss within the ore.
Researchers in this field had been worrying about it for over two hundred years, but they still hadn't figured out how to perfectly decompose and cut the ore while preserving the energy within.
So until now, energy crystals had not been used on a large scale as a mechanical material. Even Marshal Ji Xiuyun's mecha, which had been blasted into space junk, only had a layer of energy crystal powder on the most critical parts of the mecha.
The hardness problem, which had been worrying about for over two hundred years, didn't seem to be a problem for this little guy.
Yue An was eating happily. Although the energy crystals didn't have any taste, it could clearly feel the spiritual energy in its body increasing little by little.
It felt as if it was squatting in a heated room on a cold winter day, and it felt so comfortable that its entire body softened into a puddle of biscuits.
Ji Xiuyun watched as Yue An gnawed on the stone for a while, and decided not to think about how hard this little animal's teeth were for the time being.
He asked, "Little White, do you know where the water source is?"
Yue An looked at him while gnawing on the stone, then turned around with the precious energy crystals in its arms, and faced him with its butt.
Its entire body was filled with rejection.
Marshal Ji Xiuyun never knew how to reason with others, and no one would reason with him. After a moment of silence, he decided to start with Yue An's preferences.
"One energy crystal, and you will take me to the water source."
"Meow!"
Yue An turned around and stood up!
It was really easy to understand.
Ji Xiuyun glanced at Yue An's excited face, then turned around to take a few containers. He even saw a simple folding barbecue set and seasoning in the cabinet where the containers were placed.
"Is it far?" Ji Xiuyun asked.
"Meow!"
Marshal Ji Xiuyun's cat language level zero paused, "Far?"
Yue An didn't say anything.
Marshal Ji Xiuyun asked again, "Not far?"
Yue An opened its mouth, "Meow!"
"Is it dangerous?"
Yue An didn't say anything.
"No?"
"Meow!"
Marshal Ji Xiuyun glanced at the seasoning and folding barbecue set, then asked again, "Are there any aquatic animals?"
"Meow!"
Very good, it wasn't far, and there was no danger. There were aquatic animals.
Ji Xiuyun put back a few containers in his hands. He felt that he might have to use up a year's worth of his language skills on this little guy.
Recalling how his savior had looked at the nutrient solution with disdain, Marshal Ji Xiuyun brought the barbecue set and seasoning to prove that there was nothing wrong with the human race's sense of taste. After thinking for a while, he also took a tube of antidote just in case.
Yue An had been away from human society for many years, and could only recognize the containers used to store water. As for the other tools, Yue An didn't know anything and didn't know anything about them.
However, this had nothing to do with him. The only thing that mattered to him was the spirit stones.
Yue An looked at Ji Xiuyun and meowed at him. It put the spirit stones that it had gnawed on under its paws, then turned its head to look at the wall with the spirit stones.
It was a typical example of eating from the bowl and looking at the pot.
It was still stretching its neck to look.
"I'll give them to you when we come back," Marshal Ji Xiuyun said.
Yue An squatted on the ground and looked up at the human for a long time. Then, it turned its head, hugged the spirit stones, and lay down on the ground.
Ji Xiuyun: "…"
This way of protesting was so straightforward that it was scary.
If this had happened in the military, he would have been thrown into the detention room.
Ji Xiuyun looked at Yue An for a long time. He had been in the military for many years, and he was used to being a man of his word. Therefore, he didn't choose to compromise.
Yue An didn't say anything. It continued to gnaw on the spirit stones and squinted its beautiful cat eyes. From time to time, it would turn its head to look at the human standing there.
Ji Xiuyun felt a little helpless when it looked at him. However, the helplessness on his face made him look even colder.
"If I give them to you now, are you going to eat them on the way back?" Marshal Ji Xiuyun asked.
"Meow!"
That's easy!
Yue An was completely unaffected by the human's expression and meowed at him.
You're hugging me!
I'm hugging the spirit stones!
Let's have a heart-to-heart conversation that transcends species!
Marshal Ji Ji Xiuyun didn't manage to understand the complicated meaning behind this little furball's words.
The anticipation in Yue An's eyes gradually disappeared and its ears drooped.
It looked at Marshal Ji Xiuyun pitifully and meowed. It walked over and placed its two front paws on Ji Xiuyun's long legs. It was trying to use its body language to tell Ji Xiuyun to hug this cute little kitten!
However, the unromantic Marshal Ji Xiuyun was very confused.
Tsk.
Yue An, who had failed in his attempt to fool her, retracted his paw and made a mental note to himself. He then pushed the half-eaten spiritual stone to the corner and turned around to scratch the door while groaning.
Marshal Ji Xiuyun didn't realize that he had been written on the kitten's little notebook again.
He thought that the little guy had compromised, so he opened the cabin door with a bright mood.
With the speed of Yue An's four short legs, it didn't take him more than ten minutes to reach the edge of the pond.
The fish in the water seemed to have noticed the movement on the shore and quickly dived into the water with a flick of its tail.
The pond wasn't very big, but it was very deep. There was a constant flow of underground water from the bottom and it was slightly warm due to the geothermal heat.
The flowing water wasn't very big and was only about four to five square meters. It was very deep, but it was very clear and could be seen to the bottom at a glance.
There weren't many fish in the water either. They were mainly caught by small animals that couldn't find food during the dry season.
Yue An sat on the edge of the small pond and licked its paws comfortably.
Ji Xiuyun turned to look at him and then looked around. There were no large carnivores around.
This little fellow was quite impressive to be able to guard the mouth of a spring during the dry season in this place.
Ji Xiuyun filled the containers on his back with water and looked at the fish at the bottom of the pond.
Ji Xiuyun recognized this type of fish. It was a common recipe in the 13th Galaxy. It was sweet and non-toxic.
In order to avoid paying the price of another energy stone, the marshal directly took out a pointed stick used for barbecuing. His hands were as fast as lightning, and his movements were quick, ruthless, and accurate. He poked two fish with the stick.
Yue An was startled by his actions. She turned to look at him with her cat eyes wide open.
Marshal Ji didn't say anything. He turned on the portable energy stove and took out seasoning and oil. Under the gaze of the beautiful sapphire eyes, he slowly started to barbecue the fish.
The Marshal had slowly risen from a small soldier to his current position. He had survived in the wild many times. Because he had to do things himself many times, the Marshal had developed a superb barbecue skill — but it was limited to barbecuing.
Yue An watched as Ji Xiuyun methodically brushed layer after layer of things on the fish. He could barely smell some things, but he couldn't identify some things at all.
But it was very fragrant.
It made the cat's index finger twitch.
Marshal Ji Xiuyun finished barbecuing the fish and turned to look at the white furball that had unknowingly moved to his side.
Yue An looked at him, then at the barbecued fish, then at him, and then at the barbecued fish again. Finally, he reached out his paw and pressed on Marshal Ji Xiuyun's hand. He stretched his head over and sniffed the fish with his pink nose.
It was a little hot, but it didn't cause any harm to the monster's body.
It was a little uncomfortable for the cat's tongue, but it wasn't a big deal in front of such delicious food.
Human's pursuit of delicious food was really endless.
Yue An thought as he ate the delicious barbecued fish.
Marshal Ji Xiuyun watched the furball elegantly and quickly finish the barbecued fish. When he met the blue eyes again, he said very calmly, "We don't usually eat nutrient sticks."
Yue An: …
Why did he still remember this?
Why are you so narrow-minded?!
Yue An meowed perfunctorily and turned to look at the other fish in Marshal Ji Xiuyun's hand.
"This is mine." Marshal Ji Xiuyun rejected him.
Yue An glanced at Ji Xiuyun and walked to the edge of the pond. He stared at a fish and waved his paw.
There was a loud explosion of thunder. It was completely different from the almost undetectable lightning in Ji Xiuyun's memory. A bolt of lightning about the size of a child's arm came crashing down with the thunder. The water splashed and splashed all over the unsuspecting cat and human sitting by the edge of the pond.
Along with the splashing water, the fish in the small pond were also blasted out.
All of the fish.
Ji Xiuyun: …
Yue An: Cat's dumbfounded face. jpg
Marshal Ji Ji Xiuyun glanced at the barbecued fish that had been completely drenched by the unboiled water.
Yue An shrunk his neck guiltily. He didn't expect that eating half a spirit stone would increase his magic so much.
He stepped on the ground in front of him uncomfortably and turned to pick up the fish that had been blasted onto the shore. He placed them neatly in front of Ji Xiuyun.
He sat behind the row of fish and meowed obediently at Marshal Ji Ji Xiuyun in an attempt to get away with being cute.
Ji Xiuyun Ji Xiuyun wasn't angry. It wasn't a big deal to begin with. After all, this little fella had saved his life.
He just felt that this cute little furball's expression of trying to please him was quite interesting.
The Marshal Ji Xiuyun was also very interested in the new power that Yue An had just displayed.
Ji Xiuyun Ji Xiuyun knew that he had bad taste.
Marshal Ji Ji Xiuyun looked at the white furball with his standard cold expression. After a minute, he looked away and put the ruined barbecued fish to the side. He poked the three fish that Yue An had brought back and started barbecuing them without saying a word.
Yue An heaved a sigh of relief and lowered his head to look at his claws. He still had a lingering fear from that lightning strike.
The dry and hot environment made the wet marks on their bodies dry quickly.
The barbecue was also cooked very quickly.
Yue An looked at the three grilled fish and couldn't wait to go over.
However, Mr. Marshal raised the fruits of his labor high up in the next second when he came up to him.
The Yue An tried to reach it with its claws, but it couldn't.
Yue An looked at Ji Xiuyun and said pitifully, "Meow."
Mr. Marshal was tempted to touch him when he heard the cry, but his face remained impassive.
He even cruelly gave Yue An a multiple-choice question, "This, or the energy crystal, which one do you want?"
Yue An stared at Ji Xiuyun and felt that this human was really shameless!
How could he ask such a question!
Yue An angrily jumped onto Ji Xiuyun's lap. Then, without any hesitation, he flipped his soft and furry belly towards Ji Xiuyun.
Then, he meowed softly and sweetly.
What a load of nonsense!
Of course I want both!
